I just bought Guild Wars 2 the other day and installed it onto my Dell Inspiron laptop (with Windows Vista) and for the life of me, I cannot get it to work. I downloaded and installed everything I needed, and I click on the shortcut, log in, and click “play,” but as soon as I hit “play,” my computer screen blinks rapidly for a few moments, then goes back to normal.

The game never plays or launches. It’s as if it’s just crashing right before me.

I’m completely stumped as to what I should do. I know quite a bit about computers, but I’m not an expert enough to know what’s wrong with the game. I’m getting really frustrated with it because I payed quite a bit for a game that I can’t currently play. Someone please help me out!

Just downloaded on my laptop too and same thing. I found an old thread about it but none of the suggestions worked for me. Maybe we can get some new suggestions to try….

For these issues, you guys should really post system specs. And the devs like gameadvisor reports too. But in the meantime, have you uninstalled and reinstalled the latest video card drivers? Running as administrator? Are you certain you meet the min requirements? Direct x up to date?

You can try running msconfig to temporarily disable your startup programs, restart your comp and try loading the game again. (you can re-enable and restart afterwards, but if it works with everything disabled, only enable 1 at a time and test the game in between each restart)

If you can’t get the help you need here, you may want to look at the submit a ticket sticky and do so, then post your fix back here after.

I have almost the same problem…I came back after a small break i took off the game… so i double click the .exe , launcher pops with update(s) it downloads and installs w.e all good and when i press PLAY it “stop responding” and close.

I have been playing GW2 since launch almost with no problems whatsoever, nothing changed in my computer system i just stopped playing for couple of months and all i did was update the game. I run VISTA and i also tried all of the above people suggested to test with no results.

If someone knows something more i would appreciate the help.

p.s. my friend that played with me did the same exactly and he can play w/o problems altho he runs Win7 dunno if that helps lol

Almost a week and still no solution, not even an answer, to be honest, i see plenty of ppl who either cant start the game or have 100 % cpu usage, when they could play just fine without problems before this kitten updates, yes kitten, if you gonna do a minor update that isnt worth even doing, better dont do any at all if it will kitten up the game!

Kittens ftw, cant even rage -.-

Well, you can “kitten” rage lol… Sorry, I just love the use of the word kitten!

Have any of you tried filing a ticket yet? I mean, no one has actually posted any system specs, only 2 have mentioned their os, but no one mentioned 32 bit or 64 bit. These things are needed to actually help with anything other than generic fixes. I’ve also seen things like this get fixed from making sure all the updates in windows update get installed, especially the latest service packs.

So, if you’re not going to file a ticket, at least follow up with your full system specs, and/or use game advisor to create a report and post it here to give the support peeps something to work with. But if you do file a ticket and figure out your problem, please post your fix here for others experiencing the issue. Good luck to you all!
