Q:

Will there be, by any chance an upgrade for the client so this high end computer might run it smoothly i can’t get 10fps on high appearance, and this computer runs other games more smoothly better then most pc-s.

I think you may want to supply more information, such as your system specs and current version of operating system, so others can try to help you. What other games does it run smoothly?

I’m having same issue but i’m not on retina mac i’m on the regular mac book pro 2 years old, doesn’t seem to matter the graphic settings. medium or low or auto detect all runs about 10fps with lag when looking in different directions. anyone figure out if there is a setting or something that is causing this? 2.53 ghz intel core 2 duo, 8gb ram, 10.8.1 OS, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256mb.

You might want to make sure you switch in the Power Savings option to Best Performance. While running it.

And Deww. A 9400 card won’t run this game well anyways. Sorry.

That’s really encouraging Syimba- Could I ask what flavor of the Retina you’re running?
I haven’t installed yet but I have the 2.7 i7 with 16gb of ram.
Before I burn through another chunk of my allotted download bandwidth, I wanted to make sure I had all the facts.

Update to 10.8.2, it is rumored to help a lot. I cannot confirm this myself yet as I just patched last night.

Based on my tests, I have 2 Retina MBP, both 2.6 i7 with 8GB.

I updated one of them to 10.8.2 and left the other as 10.8.1 (which i have to leave there as I’m an iOS developer).

The 10.8.2 version maintains a fairly consistent 10fps over the 10.8.1 version. Both machines are pretty much clean installs with just Xcode.

I can confirm this. The update makes a significant difference. Happy news!

Jclink – glad to hear that helps!

I’m running the 2.6 GHz i7 with 8GB RAM, on OS X 10.8.2. You should be all set to play.

If you already have Guild Wars 2 installed on a Boot Camp partition, you can copy your data files over from there and save a big chunk of your bandwidth.

Hi,

I have very low FPS (not above 15) with a MacBook Pro Retina 2,3 GHz (OS X 10.8.2), but only since a few days. Before, I could run Guild Wars 2 with the highest graphics and I had a good FPS.

Also if you hit this low FPS issue on your rMBP any time after performing the EFI update that accompanied 10.8.2, it’s not you; it’s the SMC. The same issue occurs with significant framerate loss in that MMO that shall not be named. It’s happened to me several times already and a quick shutdown/reset SMC/reboot has fixed it every time.

Turn reflections off. This helped me a lot. Pushing 5.1m pixels is no joke.

For people with performance problems – reset your SMC. There is a known bug in the latest firmware update which messes up power management leading to much lower GPU performance.

Please, if an ANet employee is reading this, could you make a sticky about the SMC problem? Every fourth question seems to concern this exact issue.

I hope you are not running it at native resolution… Maximum what 650M is capable of while still retaining reasonable performance is 1920×1200 (which is far from 5.1m pixels )

But it’s still showing all the pixels. It’s not like it turns off the difference in pixels, it just doesn’t run that at a native resolution. It works like the display scaling in Mac OS X, it renders 3840×2400 then adjusts it to the screen’s resolution. And on boot camp I can actually run it at native

@Nadan: no, it doesn’t work that way. Read up how HiDPI modes work with NSOpenGLView (its all in the OS X developer documentation). You still have the adjustment at native resolution as the final step, but it doesn’t take too much processing resources (Windows has to adjust the final image as well).

Hi all,
Is there anyone with a MacBook Pro with Retina display for whom the SMC reset is not resolving performance issues? If so, please post your system specs here and we’ll look into it. Thank you!

I can get over 35fps in that other MMO at native retina resolution with all settings on high and antialiasing disabled. You’ll never get that type of performance with GW2 (with a 650M at 2880×1800) of course since it actually has a nice looking and modern graphics engine unlike that other MMO.

Anyways, I originally came on here to mention to ANet that you might want to update the SMC sticky to indicate that this issue can occur at any time and that a SMC reset will be needed every time it happens until Apple fixes the underlying issue.

I have still problems.

I’ve done SMC reset few days ago because my Windows version had fps problems.
After I did it, everything goes all right.

Today, anyway, I decided to delete my Windows partition and use only the Mac client.

Performance are really really bad.
With near everything on “medium” and resolution of 2048x??? (I don’t remember exactly) I have something like 10-15 fps.

I have a Retina, of course, with a 2.6GHz processor.

Did you try SMC reset again? It resets back sometimes.

But anyway, try lowering the resolution. Expect around 30-40% less performance than Bootcamp from the OS X version. I found 1680×1050 to be more or less playable on the OS X client.

Dark Anima,
Have you tried performing the reset again? As Xellahmai and green plum noted, you’ll probably need to repeat this process each time you notice this behavior until the underlying issue is addressed by Apple.

Also, we’ll need more information than just your CPU. Check out this sticky for instructions on how to provide the most important system specs under Lion (10.7.X) and Mountain Lion (10.8.X):
