Q:
Currently my guild wars 2 game is unplayable, yet i well surpass the minimum required specs to play the game. I have had my computer completely cleaned out, new GTX 560 graphics card installed, new 600W power supply installed, and still have issues with solely this game. I have no problems playing games that require higher specs, which is what puzzles me. (cryis, battlefield 3)
Its unfortunate that i paid full price for guild wars 2, meet and surpass all the required specs to play this game, yet i cannot enjoy the game for more then 10 min. There are times, (when outside of the pvp world) where the game will stay booted for well over an hour, but eventually the same problem happens. I dont believe its MY computer causing itself to overheat, i have overclocked nothing. Im almost sure its something within the games mechanics or programming that is running my gpu or cpu to death. Any help would be appreciated.
TL/DR Long story short, guild wars causes a complete shut down of my computer. I can turn it back on right away, so i dont believe its an overheating issue, my computer was recently FULLY cleaned internally, as well as more thermal paste applied to processor. New gtx 560 graphics cards as well as new 600w power supply. system specs are attached. driver 306.23 (latest) already installed for GTX 560 all graphic options in game are on LOWEST they can go.

I believe i solved it, oddly enough i think my GPU was overheating? its brand new tho, either that or my processor. I placed your average stand alone fan against my opened computer case and its given me no issues since. But earlier when i bench marked/stress tested my processor and gpu i had no issue with the temperature, even running fur. Its weird, and only happens with this game. Guess ill have to purchase a spot fan if i want to continue playing gw2. Probably could of kept that tr2 600 psu as well, because i dont believe that was the issue, tho the ratings on it are terrible. Hope this helps someone in the future

Are you running any overclocks? either CPU or GPU? Have you tried setting the FPS to 60/30 instead of unlimited?

i changed it from 60 to 30, i will give u an update soon as (and if) game crashes.
And no i have not adjusted any settings for my graphics card. its all stock option.

Is there a crash log on your Documents\Guildwars 2 folder? or any corrupted dat files?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: KanyeShrug.5327
the only file i see in regards to guild wars 2 is a .dat file, 15gb worth to be exact. i dont see a crash dump log, nor folder unless that information is obtained by opening the .dat file in notepad?

Your cpu is slow, it wil be maxing out. So I’d be stability testing your processor first.
Download Prime95:
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205
Download RealTemp:
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
Run RealTemp & Prime95 “Stress/Torture” test for 10minutes & report back with temps.
What power supply/brand/model do you have exactly?

Posted by: KanyeShrug.5327
currently running, 5 minutes in and surfing no issues thus far staying at a constant 62~ temp ill leave log in followup

didnt see a log saved unless i looked at the wrong file, so i attached a image via prnt screen and Microsoft paint. No issues, at least from what i can tell. Anything look suspect to you all?
to answer your question : 600W TR2 thermaltake….P/N TR-600

Looks pretty good to me.
Now, download gpuz:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
Do a render test on your graphics card using furmark
http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
& report back with temps.

I’m having a similar issue and have troubleshooted out over heating, power supply, etc.
I’ve updated drivers, tried older drivers, cleaned out parts, etc.
I did a bunch of searching and it looks like a lot of other people with various specs are having the same problem.
I can run Planetside 2 perfectly (since their latest patches) and have never had this problem with any other game. For me it started after the Sept. 9 update.
Only advice I can give is to start a support ticket. Unfortuantely, they take about 5 days to respond and I’ve recieved 2 copy/pasted responses in about a week and a half.

Have you tried setting your power option to high perf? Also disable speedstep in bios? Is UAC turned on as well?

i have not, currently power mode was set to gameing mode power plan, which is part of the game boosters power plan, activated when i switch to gaming mode. should i try high performance instead? how would that prevent the computer from shutting down due to gw2?
UAC is set to default, should it remain there?
and i will check out speedstep in the bios.
FYI: under power management, my processor power management states
minimum processor state : 100%
maximum processor state: 100%
(that dosnt seem right) or is normal, id imagine minimum should be around 5 or 10% correct? think that could solve my issues?

Currently Isolating the issue probably due to core speed(downclocking then switching back to normal clocks).Try switching it to High perf UAC turned off then also disable automatic restart on failure ( System Properties -> Advance Option -> Startup and Recovery)
What powersettings? Game Mode?

both gamer mode as well as high performance mode. should i leave them both at 100%? (minimum and maximum)
turning UAC off, as well as disabling auto restart.

Yep. Gaming requires 100% processor speed both min/max. See if that helps.

Kanye, you got a make and model on your power supply? and just as another possibility, the make and model of your motherboard?

Try disabling EIST & C1E C2 states in bios.

Also looks good. Now run Prim95 AND Furmark at the same time for 10min. If it doesn’t shut down we can start looking elsewhere.

ill try that when i get home from work and edit this message with a log

You should use an utility to check what’s making your system crash:

That PSU is terrible, definitely the first place to look.

Yea when ever software consistently brings down the whole computer, it isn’t the software that is doing it. Guild wars 2 is causing all your components to work at peak power usage, and when a power supply can’t keep up then the motherboard will shut off all power when it senses that the voltages are falling way out of their range due to too much strain on the PSU.

bought a new cosair GS600 psu, thinking most of my problems were gone, but lo and behold the same issue is occuring. Do you guys think it could be my OS causing this problem? ive ran a full diag on my computer, everything checks out fine. Ive switched out surge protectors, and inspected my motherboard for blown capacitors. Also updated windows 7 to SP1 as well.

What about HD capability? Could be your HDs are failing. The issue I had that was similar and existed outside of the MMO realm was that my CPU had suffered a short so when trying to balance the load one core would shut off as if to preserve itself due to the overload the second was suffering.

so just a note a full shut down while playing game to power off is the PSU tripping off to much power being drawn.

Your windows is fine, PSU is fine, and im sure that it wasn’t a software related issue follow my instruction:
Try this, remove your memory ram and replace it back after like 5 minutes and default your bios settings, if that doesnt work try this another method since you and my brother have the same issues, what i did to his computer is i remove the cpu fan and cleaned it, yes the dusk that blocked the air flow is the one that causes ur cpu to crashed randomly, if you have extra thermal paste put a little bit more into ur cpu…. Do the same medhod with your gpu fan clean it.. Most of people think that dusk is not a big deal, well it does!! it actually make some hardware malfunctioning but after cleaning it, it works like a charm again.. Hope this help your issues, if my method works good!! just join in our guild to repay me lmao..
goodluck

My problem has been resolved. See the answer located at the top of this page for the resolution to my problem. it did turn out to be an overheating issue but not because my computer had dust in it, i actually cleaned it when i put my new gpu in. and it was not the psu, tho the symptoms would make that the likely case. thanks to all that assisted and helped. See you all in game, good luck
