Is there any way to play it on mac? I really need help, thanks.

Can you run it via something like Boot Camp or a VM ? Or is it not compatible with the hardware (I have no idea where Macs are at right now, haven’t had one for a few years) ?

I run GW2 through Boot Camp Win7 64 bit and can achive 70-80fps on highest graphics sessions.

Works very well…

I too run GW2 with BootCamp, but some people are getting really close to being able to run this using Wine-based solutions. Running BootCamp is just running Windows, not OSX, on your Mac.

Given that it seems very doable, I’d love to not have to reboot every time I want to play.

Since the game’s been ported using Cider I’m hoping I can copy over the game content from my Windows install and avoid downloading all 20Gb again…

On the down side: shame it only supports Lion and later.

On the plus side: at least this means I can’t install it at work, otherwise I could see exactly ZERO productivity in my future. :P

I have yet to try, but you should be able to copy over gw2.dat in:

Applications > Guild Wars 2.app > Contents > Resources > transgaming > c_drive > GW2

Hjalmar The Uncouth / Vaedreus Aardimus
Legion of the Aguila [LOA] • Blackgate

has anyone tried the Client yet?
I just downloaded the installer, but this annoying thing called work gets in the way…

Should be able to try it tonight though.
Just glad that more big name companies are understanding that Mac users play games too
I have this PC sitting on the desk just for games… 99% of my time is on my iMac/MBP.

just tried it.
you can just copy your old gamedata from bootcamp (or one of the inofficial game clients) into the new mac-client.

runs pretty good, nearly as good as with bootcamp. (max resolution on my 2011 imac with high settings: 36-60 fps)

one problem i have:
at least with my german keyboard i can’t set “weapon change” to the ^-key (left of the 1-key). it’s set default to “ö”, which is far of.
i’ve set it to “c” now, since that key is nearby and isn’t used yet.
so not too bad…

In bootcamp I get 45-50 FPS, using the MAC OSX beta client I am getting 2-3 FPS. I am still using Snow Leopard, could this be the reason?

Bennichan > you can’t, it writes weird symbols instead of what you should paste
You also can’t use the visual keyboard or the character viewer to instert an @, it is simply not supported.
I’m also on the french client at work, cough cough

Works pretty well on low settings on my macbook air. Good for a quick session if I have to play on my laptop.

i7 2011 macbook air with 4 gigs of ram, and an Intel 3000

I even already have a bug to report

Okay, workaround fellow french mac users, set your keyboard into an US keyboard and it’s shift+2 to put an @.
You can switch back after inputing your email

(edit : shift+2 not shift+3)

sry for stealing your thread Mac Users

Since Transgaming uses a very custom build of Wine, you can run GW2 in wine right now, it just isnt as clean and performant as the transgaming custom build.

I think the next step is for them to make their own Wine wrapper for Linux. It is the only way I can think of for them to do it.

That is a long term thing though, they need devs to actually spend time doing that, fixing bugs in the Wine source code, or doing workarounds in the GW2 source code.

I don’t see it happening any time soon due to the very custom nature of every single Linux distro. Unless they can compile to a common ELF file that will work across any distro, they would need to make like 6-7 version to handle all the popular linux distros, and their versions.

An upside, is we can probably turn on Mac Mode for the linux installs, so we get the cleaner launcher without the broken transparency, and maybe some other things that will help play on Linux using the mac mode stuff. There is even some custom settings for mac that might help.
