Gw2.exe and Repair Util Crashing
Hi Kris,
I had the same problems over and over again after a patch. Because the lack of support or response in this matter i tried to find out myself. What seems to help (at least for me ) was other vidcard drivers. I have an ATI card 7950, i d/l beta drivers 13.6 from the AMD site. Also in the graphics section of the game i adusted some graphic settings. Everything is on high, uncheck Best texture filtering, High res characters textures and vertical sync, you can leave depth blur on, hope it helps.
This seems like the program is being blocked. Make sure you are running as an administrator and you may want to try disabling any antivirus or firewalls you have and test again. Disable UAC if that doesn’t help and test again. And if still having issues, run msconfig, disable all startup programs, restart computer and try gw2 again.
Please post back if any of that works. (you can also re-enable most of this afterwards, but if the problem starts again, then we have to figure out which step fixed the issue and why, so please post back what worked)
Thank you all. I appreciate both responses;
I must admit however that I don’t think this might have to do with the graphics settings, since i haven’t been able to get gw2.exe to run at all. but thank you all the same, it’s good to see others offering a helping hand!
To the second response:
Hmm, that is quite a reasonable cause. I’ll make sure I have it set up for administrator rights as well as my firewall settings.
I’ll post once I try everything out. Thank you, everyone!
No luck.
It wasn’t blocked by my firewall, and running as an administrator didn’t help. Got another crash though, repair utility and main patcher. I hope i can access the game soon with your help, community!!
Did you try the msconfig option?
Hi all, same problem here
I have the game since September and never have any problems until last Sunday. The game starts normally and then crashes on random time. I try everything, uninstall, reinstall, install on different location, run the game from different account on win7. The problem remains. I even try to play diablo3 after 8 months because I suspect hardware failure but it plays flawless without problems. When I’m back home tonight I’ll try the msconfig solution.
My PC has c2d 2.8 & 4GB ram with sapphire ATI 6540 .

@kylla:
I don’t understand how msconfig could factor in, afaik that’s for choosing what services/applications run during startup, could you elaborate?
I don’t think the last user is having the same issue as me, i crash when i’m on the screen that’s in the attached screen capture.
I can’t get into the game, and it’s not that i’ve been playing, i just downloaded the client.
When i get home from work tonight, i’m going to try to delete everything and download again; perhaps this is some deeper file corruption that can’t be solved by the repair utility.
Kris, I suggested msconfig because it does seem like something is blocking or interfering with gw2. This way, if you disable all startup applications and gw2 starts fine and works without issue, there is definitely a conflict with something.
But feel free to try an uninstall/reinstall.
Pagkon, your issue definitely seems completely different. Perhaps start a new topic/thread and I (and others) could try to help you separately without disrupting Kris’ help. When you start your topic, please post any errors you are receiving, your complete system specs, and describe your symptoms (and any occurrences leading up to your crashes). Then we can try to help you personally also
