Gw2 setup a virus?
probably a false positive

probably a false positive
Thats what I was thinking, but after doing a virus scan I found no threats. Then I try to download the game again and finds that its a virus again.
So I am not sure what to do.
What AV are you running?
looks like it could be trendnet…..my advice is you need to either disable the AV or add an exception to allow the file to download.
false positives are common with some AV’s, its why i wont touch many av apps like avg( i mean other then avg sucking donky dong….)

Trend mirco. The funny part is this has never happen to me before. Other games like WoW and Vindictus does not have a problem. Might be the coding of this game.
This issue is not about firewall.
all av’s have false positives, some are just worse then others, if you are really worried, exclude a folder from virus protection, download the GW2 installer to there, then upload the installer to virustotal, you will find that there will be false positive with almost any file….its normal, its expected, its a pain in the kitten but, it is what it is as they say

Virus signatures/definitions is not an exact thing, so false positive will eventually occur when new ones are pushed out. Every game/application is different, doesn’t mean too much if WoW isn’t flagged. If you are paranoid you can use other AV and scan it. virustotal.com offers aggregated results from multiple vendors.

As I said before. Every time I download this setup file its flagged a virus. So this cannot be a false positive.
My brother also has the same problem. He is using Trend mirco and his anti virus is also picking up this is a virus.
So back to coding either the anti virus or GW2 coding is bad. I have a little more faith in my anti virus because it looks for virus codes.

I don’t think you understand what false positive mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antivirus_software#Problems_caused_by_false_positives
The downloaded file is a partial file, your AV might be having false positive with it’s definition or too aggressive of heuristics settings. There is a fine line in deciphering a virus from a legit program because virus are programs themselves.
Could even by another virus on your system modifying files triggering false positive. Could be firefox way of handling partial file download. etc.
A legit program and a virus are both very similar. If the AV software is too strict then more false positive occur, if they relax their setting to avoid fewer false positive then some viruses might pass through. Its all about balance and hitting the sweet spot, and because of that false positive will sometime happen. There is no way to get 100% detection and accuracy. Also, just because AV is installed and updated doesn’t mean its virus free. Its a cat & mouse game.

“Could even by another virus on your system modifying files triggering false positive. " Unless me and my brother has exactly the same virus…
Anyways thanks for the help. I will assume the anti-virus has a false positive on this file.
Have you tried using any other anti-virus program to scan it? And you did download this from the official page right?
I just came on to report the same problems with McAfee and GW2setup and saw this message. I had a hard drive problem and just installed a new hard drive and am reinstalling programs. Then I go to download GW2 and get a very red, scary message from McAfee (attached). Can we get some official response about why this is happening?
False positives from antivirus programs is a bigger issue today than actual viruses.
reported clean, doesn’t seem to be harmful.
just suspicious
lots of tools and programs can have suspicious areas, could always trace the file down yourself, read it and figure out what it actually does.
sandbox is your bestfriend
I got this as well when I was downloading this. Microsoft Security Essentials says its clean, and when I uploaded it on virustotal only trend micro has a problem with it. I’m reasonably sure this is a false positive

Wouldn’t let me edit my post ><
I think McAfee is being trigger happy. I tried downloading two more programs and it complained. BitTorrent and Sandboxie it had a problem with, and when I scanned with MSE and virustotal both programs came up clean.
At this rate I’m going to uninstall site adviser if it is going to keep crying wolf, and I’m using a fresh Win7 install
edit: D’oh, needed to enable cloudfront on noscript, now I can edit.
