Hi Jeso and BigTone,
Could you please attach a Game Advisor report to the thread so that we can look into this issue a little further?
You can download the application by clicking the link below:

Please note that you will be automatically prompted to download the application upon clicking the link.

Thanks for the reports guys!
@BigTone – I would like to rule out the possibility that there is another program interfering with the game connection. To do this, we use a Windows command called “MSCONFIG.”
Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up.
To do this:
1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type “MSCONFIG” without the quotes, and click “OK.” This should open the System Configuration Utility.
3. Click on the “Services” tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box near the bottom, then click the “Disable All” button. (You MUST click “Hide all Microsoft Services”)
4. Next go to the “Startup” tab and click the “Disable All” button.
5. Once these items are all disabled, click the “OK” button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.
6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again. If your issue is not resolved by using MSCONFIG, please generate a new Game Advisor report prior to disabling MSCONFIG. That way, we can see what, if anything wasn’t disabled by these steps.
To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click “Normal Startup” on the first window labeled “General.”
Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software, mouse or keyboard applications or even security applications. Please note that security applications can often be a contributing factor to such issues. If you haven’t done so already, please also disable any Anti-virus, Firewall or other security applications for testing purposes.

@Jeso – It looks like you’re using Parallels to play Guild Wars 2. While not a supported method of playing, this does not mean that you will be unable to. What I did notice though was that it looks like you may not have graphics drivers installed:
Display Devices
———————-
Card name: Standard VGA Graphics Adapter
Manufacturer: (Standard display types)
Chip type: Parallels® VESA BIOS Version 3.0.2111.89721
DAC type: 6 bit

Display Memory: n/a
Dedicated Memory: n/a
Shared Memory: n/a

Driver Name: vga
Driver File Version: 6.01.7600.16385 (English)

Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 7/13/2009 16:38:47, 15360 bytes

This could be causing the issue that you are experiencing and so I would recommend a clean installation of the latest video card for your system.
I am using an imac, thats why the parallels, and my video card is ATI Radeon HD 5750, so the computer test didnt read the video card or something? by clean installation of the latest videocard, you mean downloading the drivers and all that? or how do i install it? again, its an imac, and i cannot mess around with whats already inside the machine.

@Jeso – Yes, unfortunately running the client on a Mac through Parallels is unsupported, though you should still be able to play. By clean installation I mean completely uninstalling the older drivers (yours are from 2009 and so they need to be updated) and installing the newest drivers. You will need to locate the newest drivers from the system manufacturer’s support site.
this is the new one.
I was already running with the majority of programs off as I did the msconfig on friday night – however I did have my firewall up and Antivir running when i did the first test. I have made an exception for ports in GW2 in my antivirus software, etc.
Oddly – looking at this one – the connection seems worse now.
You are the expert – let me know what you think.

@BigTone – That’s really interesting… the traceroutes in the Game Advisor report are not showing me anything. How exactly are you connecting to the Internet? Are you directly connected via Ethernet cable? If you’re using a router I would recommend bypassing it if this is something that you’re able to do.
I am using a router – I can’t bypass it at all without buying a 50 foot ethernet cable and probably risking divorce.
I can’t understand why it would be causing such a big problem – I play predominantly MMO’s – this has never happened. TOR and Rift both patched and loaded today.
the first report was far better connected – were there traceroutes on that?
I’m just asking – I’m a little out of my depth
Im using a Netgear DG834GT – not sure if that helps?

There were no traceroutes shown in that report either which is interesting. You can always go back and re-enable the applications you had just closed to see if your connection improves.
As a temporary troubleshooting step, are you able to disable Avast? Generally this particular application does not conflict with Guild Wars 2, however, I would like to rule it out as a potential contributing factor.
It is disabled and was for the 2nd test – thanks for keeping with this

Okay so I was looking through your Game Advisor report and noticed you have quite a few older Nvidia driver files on your system. So I would like to rule out any old or corrupted drivers being part of the reason why the launcher is crashing on you and not doing anything. So this next step is a loaded one. I would like for you to try a clean installation of your drivers by using an application called Driver Fusion.
The intent here is to allow Driver Fusion to scan your PC for left over drivers from previous installations. These left over files can often cause issues with rendering 3D applications, even if you have installed the most recent drivers revision.
To do this:
1. Please download the latest driver from the following website and save it to your desktop, but do not install it yet:
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/48846
2. Download Driver Fusion by visiting http://treexy.com – Click “Products” then select “Driver Fusion.”
3. Click “Download for Free” and save it to your desktop.
Once you have both files on your desktop, we will need to remove your currently installed drivers. To do this:
4. Navigate to “Control Panel” in Windows and select “Uninstall a program or Add/remove programs” depending on your operating system.
5. Locate and remove the following from the uninstall list: (We recommend removing them in this order)
Nvidia 3D Vision Controller Driver
Nvidia 3D Vision Driver
Nvidia PhysX System Software
Nvidia Graphics Driver
Once the removal process has completed, please double click the file “Driver_Fusion_X.X.X” to start the installation process.
6. Choose the default installation options and once installed, start “Driver Fusion.” (Note, you may have to provide administrative rights if you have User Account Control enabled)
7. Left click and highlight the following options:
AMD – Display
Intel – Display
Nvidia – Display
Do NOT check any labeled “Chipset.”
8. Once selected, click “Analyze.” This will scan your system for any AMD, Intel or Nvidia drivers and list them for you to review.
9. Once you’re list has compiled, select “Delete” to remove these entries.
At this point, you will need to reset your computer to complete this process.
Once you return to Windows:
10. Right-click the driver file you downloaded in step 1 and select “Run as Administrator.” (note, if you are on Windows XP, you will not have this option, just double click the file)
11. Once the setup file is loaded, select “Custom (Advanced)”
12. Checkmark “Perform a clean install” and click next to start the installation process.
13. Once completed, restart your machine again.
Once you return to Windows:
14. Right-click on your “Desktop” and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
15. Click “Adjust image settings with preview” and move the slider to “Performance.”
16. Click “Apply” to save your changes.
Once completed try the installation again.
Let me know if this helps at all!
i uninstalled them – driver fusion installed but is crashing on opening. tried several times.
rebooted computer. same thing.
is there another program that will do the same thing?
computer is very sluggish atm.

You are crashing when you run Driver Fusion or when you install the new drivers? What step did you get stuck on?
I dont mean to be a jerk, but this is my thread, so BigTone can you take it to a personal thread just for yourself? im having trouble finding my own stuff here.
Thanks.
So i tried to download the drivers and everything, but my virtual machine doesnt detect my video card, so that was useless.. what do i do?
Never mind, GW2 coming out for MAC OH YEAA!! i probably wont have anymore problems related to this thread. : D
