1st its the game thats kinda broken atm
2nd your cpu is a bit old thats also not helping in your case not saying you have a useless cpu and you gotta upgrade but you will have to live with it till it gets fixed and no one knows the ETA of that yet…
Game not broken. See no issues atm, except broken events. Not in the graphical area.
Best is to overclock your cpu to at least 3-3.2ghz. You’ll need a good heatsink and proper airflow.

I got 4.2 i5 2500 and gtx 680. So yes, it is broken, I lag with this.
Well id disagree with that Kalec the game is like a Microsoft PPT slide unless you have a beast pc like yourself and for me its as good as broken cuz i didnt pay that money to play the game like a slideshow

We have similar system, no problem for me. You having graphical or network lag? Big difference in what lag is?

If your having a slideshow effect, something in your hardware is causing this.
Not every software can work on every system. 2 people can have the identical system, one will work the other issues. its on how your system was configured.

Well obviously my pc is broken cause it dips 15fps on GW not on anything else in the market.. I’ll totally buy that.
Agree with comment to buy a $25 cpu air cooler and overclock to at least 3.0ghz. A common overclock for others with the q6600. You might consider overclocking the GPU with AMD’s control center. Always monitor temperatures and read up what is safe.
The Q6600 is highly unlikely to be able to handle WvWvW with the amount of processing it has to endure with the numbers of people present…not only is the speed of the procesor in terms of ghz low, it is also old architecture which is also not helping.
Your game will run fine as you have said, when its not got much CPu bound stuff to process,.. but pvp gives heavy load to the cpu (and gpu but only if your cpu can handle it first)
In all honesty its about time people still using Core 2 Duo’s or Core 2 Extremes need to update to a i5 or better. it aint really THAT expensive for the performance increase you will get.

I have the same card as the OP, I upgraded to an i5-3570k and my FPS is a huge amount better in PvP.

Then I’m just unlucky to have a bugged hardware at anets end. I ran the 3d mark and heaven benchmark and nothing is at my end. kitten you anet
using the same card here, with an i7 2600 12gb ram, i can report no issues.
fps does drop during wvw when i see 30+ storming a gate but not that badly usually around the 20-25 region with high settings.
does this worry me? nope
my solution…ordered a 7950 3gb
if my hardware can’t do it i’ll upgrade it.
thats the point of the pc, you move with the times or get left behind.
Please, remove that win vista, and update to seven 64 bit.
I believe that will fix.
have tried different drivers? I have no problem with my 6850.
try running some software like GPU-z and looking at the graphs when you enter pvp.
Hi,
So far i am loving the game..I am running game on medium to high with high textures etc.. Looks lush. Im getting about 50 60 steady fps when questing… now then, when i go into PVP i drop to 10fps if i am lucky… even tried running on the lowest setting and still i get the same drop in fps no improvement. I am wondering if you can help me out.. please see the attach dxdiag for information. I have lastest drivers.
Thank you in advance

Many will say your CPU is the problem. It is older, and slower, but thats not the main issue here. Just as an example:
If your Core2quad is getting 10 fps in WvW, then someone else with a much more powerful i7 is still only going to be getting 30-35 fps.
Both are still REALLY REALLY low. Lower than they should be. The difference is, 30-35 is playable. 10 isnt.
The mega i7 machines out there should run this game at a steady 60 fps, and they arent. Likewise, on ALL LOW settings, a core2quad SHOULD run this game at a steady 30 fps, and they arent. Its the game engine. Its not very optimized yet. A better cpu will help, but its just a bandaid solution.
Its like putting a jet engine on a car with square tires. Yeah, it will move it down the road, but the real issue here are the square tires. Just because the jet engine makes it go, doesnt mean the problem is solved.

Lol nice analogy :P
indeed its true about the performance BUT all >MODERN< mmo’s i’ve played have the same issue when it comes to handling many many players on screen at the same time. So i highly doubt it will be ‘fixed’ as it isnt necceserily somthing that can be fixed. its just the Engine limitations.
two examples pop to mind:
Rift:
is atm the worst engine iv come across, even without loads of people on the screen it doesnt really give great performance. And when there is loads of people its even worse.
Tera:
Runs great really smooth.. untill you get 40 or 50+ people together then it gets into issues. Go to a rift event where there is usualy 100 odd people around and you get 5-15 fps no matter what rig you have. Luckily the only times you see this many people is in the rift events. No raids yet so ‘normal’ gameplay, even pvp is fine.
In the end what im saying is, it may be a ‘bandaid’ solution but its the only one we’re likely to be able to use.

just ran wvw for the sake of debate using the above listed system specs, maxed settings on the 6850, using fraps to get a real time fps count.
in combat was always above 40 fps.
out of combat was above 100 fps.
it’s not the gpu at fault here, unless it’s broken xd.
orlen.7810: Totally agree. That is the entire point of PC gaming. If it’s slow/old just upgrade (or overclock) it & stop QQ’ing about how bad it runs on 6yr old hardware. Can’t do that on a console.

Q6600@3.4 with HD6870 doesnt have any problems with this game on 1920×1080 highest settings. shaders set on Ultra. AA on. and Vsync on. fps drop in massive WvWvW is to around 24-30 fps range. (average fps in PvE is 38-60) its not a slide show. yes it is old and may become cranky in events like the Inquest Raid during the beta (but then the game wasnt optimised). i would say it can be compared to Dual Core I5 with HT.
any 6850 can be overclocked to 6870 performance.
Guys,
Thank you for the input.. I did put it down to the CPU. I just wanted to check and hear some peoples thoughts. I’m going to overclock the cpu for now.. see if any performance increase. I was upgrading next month anyway. I usually have the system up-to-date – but with mmo being rubbish.. I havent felt it was necessary.
Thanks,
MrRix

My last CPU was a Q6600@3.6GHz. I’m now at an i7-2600K@4.5GHz. I used a GTX 560Ti@1GHz on both.
I was playing Deus Ex: HR at the time I changed the CPUs. I can tell you that going to the i7 almost doubled my framerate, at the same graphic settings. I was really… “Wow!”. There is no way that a Q6600 can be compared to any of the current CPU architectures.
