Ok so at this moment I am completely confused on what is wrong with my setup. Ever since I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 the final release (never had this problem during BETA) my computer is randomly dieing out on me. What happens is both my monitors turn into <insert any color here> with black lines vertically drawn across the screen. I can’t alt + tab I can’t Ctrl + Alt + Del I am just forced to manually reset my computer.

Now at first I thought it was a safety measure because at one point my BIOS gave the Over CPU-Core Tempature sometimes on start-up. So I installed a new cooler (Corsair H80 Liquid Cooler) hoping that would solve the problem. NOPE! Still died out 3 times already in 2 hours. So I am totally confused on what is causing the issue and maybe someone can shed some light on the issue.

(ps. it only crashes with Guild Wars 2 all the other games run just fine)

This is what I have tried so far:

> Monitor my CPU: Tempatures never exceed 60 celcius
> Rollback to older graphic drivers
> Replace the cooler of my CPU
> Run in lower settings
> Run with both monitors solo
> Run as administrator
> Reinstall graphic drivers

So I fear my GPU is dieing however it strikes me as odd that I could run games such as Max Payne 3, Sleeping Dogs, Starcaft II and Shogun: Total Wars II on pretty much max settings without any problems.

So as final information this is my setup:

CPU: Intel Core i7 920
GPU: MSI AMD Radeon HD 6970 Lightning
PSU: Corsair GS800 Power Supply
Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Gene
Cooler: Corsair H80 Liquid Cooler
RAM: 6GB DDR3 (3x 2GB)
OS: Windows 7 64x

To be honest I do not believe it has caused permanent damage, since I am still able to run every game just fine. Only GuildWars is causing problems.

Hmmm…. Have you tried memtest and running some kind of benchmark?

Download Sapphire TRIXX and then try disabling ULPS thing in the settings tab… Ive got the exact same problem with my 6950@6970 its caused by some weird power management thing in CCC with that disabled you will be free as the wind^^

PS: Btw you will have to the same procedure everytime you make a fresh windows install cuz the problem persists…

That sounds more like an issue with your graphics card/GPU than the CPU. Usually, the colored lines is a symptom of a VRAM problem or other issue with the graphics card.

I’d make sure that the airflow around the graphics card is good and that the GPU fan is workin properly.

Memtest really doesn’t turn up anything. I am now going to try muslumgurseks’s solution and I will go play. I will make an update if anything changes.

Also forgot to mention it may persist through out GPU driver updates so make sure its still disabled when you update your ati drivers. Hope it works out for you too.

Ok I am quite ashamed of myself now. My previous BIOS version dated back to 2009 blushes I’ve updated it to the latest version available on the ASUS site hopefully this fixes the issue or else I am going to cry!

So far really thanks for your help muslumgurseks!

What I would do:
- Try running GW2 with only one monitor connected
- Test your GPU’s RAM
- Look for GPU BIOS, driver updates, incl betas
- Look for motherboard firmware update, incl betas
- Test for GPU damage by halving its clocks and see if it runs (albeit slower FPS); if successful, double/halve clocks until you can reliably recreate/aver the issue and send in for warranty exchange
