HOT key
The problem with resellers is that you don’t know how they obtained their keys. This is why they are not safe. People will use stolen credit cards to buy codes from ArenaNet, then resell them to sites like G2A, which is why you can find highly discounted prices. Once these fraudulent purchases are detected by the bank/credit card issuer, the transaction is refunded, which causes a chargeback to ArenaNet. That chargeback is considered fraud and your key is banned as a result. Generally this happens within the first week, but it could take up to 90 days.
If you end up using the key, I suggest waiting at the very least 3 business days after receiving it to apply it to your account.
Thanks for answering. I didn’t know that information until today….
So, there is no way to check the key legitimacy?
They will accept it and then just ban me? is that right?
You could contact the retailer you purchased it from and ask for a refund, and then purchase from an authorized retailer or ArenaNet. Then, you would not have to worry about having your account terminated.
Good luck.
I think i will indeed do that. But i really think that GW2 shoud search for key legitimacy befor accepting it!! thats no sence here…

If you buy direct from arena net or authorize store from their list never have to worry about bad key. Not arena net problem if you buy from some shady source.
Well, they could do that, but then you would have to wait, oh, maybe a week or so, before the key is activated while ArenaNet waits for the chargebacks to come in on fraudulent keys. It takes some time for the stolen credit card information to filter down to all the retailers they are used on, I would guess.

Sill not the best policy… I say…

think about this scenario:
In 2 weeks anet found out that the keys were bought with stolen credit card informations by the seller cause the legal owner order an chargeback.
2 weeks are fictional timeline but how should anet check the key legitimacy beforde accepting the key if at this moment all seems legit cause the legit owner dont know someone using his credit card at this moment?
edit: Iculpatus already post the same while i was tipping

You are right. The best policy is to only purchase Serial Keys from Authorized retailers or the company itself.
Good luck.
How G2A works: People buy keys from other sources (usually with a sale, or a stolen credit card) then resells the key to other people. If it’s with a stolen card, they just sell it for a low amount knowing the price entices people.
Now the original stolen card started charging back all the purchases. This can even take a month or 2 to occur. (Some people are really bad at checking their statements.)
So what you are saying, you want people to wait to ensure the key isn’t stolen. Sometimes those charges aren’t removed until it’s shown up on a statement to the original owner. Then the credit card company has to research the charges. THEN the charge backs occur. Should people really wait a month after entering a key to see if it was purchased from a legit source.
It’s not a very quick thing that occurs.
I know that now! i’m not here to solve a possible problem, i already bougth it…
but ok then ty vm

The key is legitimate. The problem is that if it was purchased using a stolen credit card, that transaction will eventually be forcibly refunded. That refund is what flags the key as fraudulent. If that never happens however, the key will be fine. That’s why you should wait to use unsafe keys, because if they’re banned without being registered, nothing will happen and if you try to register a banned key, it simply won’t work.
The same problem can happen if a friend buys you the game directly from ArenaNet. Within the first 30 days, they simply have to issue a refund request to ArenaNet and the key will be banned along with the account.
Never ever EVER buy anything from g2a. EVER. Seriously a lot of people learnt this the hard way. So many chargeback scams there it is not worth it at all
Ty guys, i already confirmed, i ll be refunded…
