I’ve been getting huge lag spikes with GW2 and GW2 alone since the last update while playing pvp which has got to the point where its become unplayable. The last game I had I even had a spike that lasted almost a full minute where I thought I’d been disconnected but eventually recovered.

I logged on today from 1600 PST to about 1700 and was also experiencing lag spikes and crashes. GW2 is locking up my computer, to the point that simple three finger salute is insufficient to deal w/ the problem. I’ve had to restart my comp twice in the last hour.

And there is NO similar issue With ANY of the other games on my comp. This is bad guys!

It’s an issue with anet servers or router hops to the servers,i can’t play the game without getting continuous d/c and lagging and rubberbanding.

I was getting about 20 sec. lag spikes but I have had more issues with the login servers.

Yesterday it was constant disconnects to character select screen and getting the “cannot connect to login server” error popup in game (trying to WP or change maps puts me in an eternal loading screen) and today I can’t even login with the launcher.

Yeah, loading onto a character pretty much always ends up in losing connection to the login server. This started late last night and has continued up til this morning. ETA on fix?

These lag spikes have been happening to me since Friday’s reset. It’s only this game. It happens in WvW and PVE. Got d/c’d twice today in pve maps. Friday I was skipping around all over the place in EBG and even OS.

Hi All,

Okay- I’ve been running some tracing back to ANET Servers…
Please see the attached pretty graph.. which shows there is 0% Packet Loss…

Yet ANET Servers (Node 15/16) – are showing hugh lag spike differences.. from 120ms up to 450ms+..

This seems to be the sypmtoms that all of us are describing.

Have fun ANET – fix it please ;-)

Thanks,

Not just EU and Western NA…I am in Atlantic (Eastern coast) Canada and with Eastlink as my provider. I have been having these issues for 2 weeks now. After logging in right after the patch I had difficulty even reaching Seis and getting the box to open when I clicked on them. Daughter could not even leave Black Citadel without crashing, or just lagging out the portal then dropping under the map. When they said they were taking the game down to fix it, then the rollback, we figured that that was what the problem must have been….surprisingly nope, it didn’t touch whatever the heck this is. :\

Game is pretty nearly unplayable in some maps such as Cursed Shore and Silverwastes, and in areas such as Black Citadel and The Grove..and others, but those seem to be my worst.

I have run with boss zergs for years with NO issues until that patch 2 weeks ago. Now just constant lag, skill lag, rubber banding, zero ping, FPS drops .. and crash after crash after crash.

fix this. I just acquired the same issue. Had perfectly fine run last night, but suddenly today all went to kitten. Just did fractals with anywhere from 200 ping to 1000 ping, where usually i’m about 70.

-diag gave me some ideas to ping, so I chose “206-127-158-1.ncsoft.com [206.127.158.1]”:

Ping statistics for 206.127.158.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

This matches some of the crap numbers I’ve been seeing after I log into the game, with no assetsrv, with assetsrv set to 174.35.71.9 or 151.249.90.199….same results.

Now it hasn’t been massive to me but I think it’s more than just GW2 servers. I play a few different games as well, not going to mention any names, but in each of them I get a 4-10 second lag spike where the games don’t respond to my commands. All the mobs and that just sit there then it catches up all at once. It happens like that in the 2 online MMO’s that I play so I think it’s a problem along the tracing itself. I don’t know if it’s because of the storms in southeastern US or not but I would like to know if ANET has any info on it.

Enjoy life.

Similar problem here (EUW), even worst.
Until 1:AM (UTC + 2) i can’t play at all. If i manage to get after the loading screen (about 60% of the times) i can play for about 3 minutes, then i can’t interact with the game at all (can’t cast spells or chat), but i CAN move and the others see me moving around, but for me it’s all stuck.
I’m currently at the 11° mails with Arenanet support, but they keep me giving me advice about connection and similar (Gameadivce tests, WinMTR tests, ecc…), but my connection works fine (i’ve tested it in every way possible).
Beside i get this problem only before 1:AM. I keep asking them if it’s a problem on their side. Response: “Nope”.
I’ve bought HoT about a week ago, used it for 2 days, then it all started.
Thinking about the refund.

After submitting a ticket to Anet due to the skill lag, they had me run three different tests – the one listed on the support section of this site, then “gameadvisor” – a software download that does a traceroute and finally a WinMTR test.

Based on the WinMTR, they first told me it might be my wireless router, which I bypassed immediately afterward. The problem got worse. Since then I have been asked to run 3 additional WinMTR and one more “gameadvisor” traceroutes.

Then they told me to contact my ISP – that the issue was there. I called my ISP this morning and shared the WinMTR reports. They took ONE look and told me the issue was not with my ISP but with an interim step in the path (64.53.15.117 , which is apparently Spirit Telecomm). They told me that since this isn’t part of their company, they probably wont be able to do anything (but to their credit, they are looking into it).

They told me the software chooses the path. I have now communicated that back to the Anet reps trying to help me and am awaiting yet another response.

I feel stuck in the middle here. Someone has to be able to fix this and both sides are telling me the other is responsible. All I know for sure is that all of the people I am actually giving (have given) money too are telling me they can’t do anything. I tend to believe that, if the software controls the route, then the software developer should be responsible for fixing the issue (by changing the route if needed). The fact that GW2 appears to be the only game affected by this backs that up.

However, I’m also willing to admit I am not technically knowledgeable about any of this. I just want someone to help.

Now the ArenaNet representative is telling to use a VPN – and in the same sentence telling me doing so may result in a “false flag” ban from the game.

I have no idea how VPNs works – and am skeptical of any “solution” that costs me a monthly fee (and might result in an account ban).

I have no idea what I should be doing.

Your ISP is wrong. They do have some control over the route your internet takes to Anet servers in Texas. If you played any other games in Texas you would have the same exact issue. Your ISP uses that node owner when going to Texas just like mine used mostly Comcast nodes. Anet has no control over how you get connected to their servers except for the last hop. Your ISP is very unlikely to change their route which is why Anet is telling you to use a VPN which will change your route.

I’m getting that feeling. I invested in VPN software, but it really hasn’t resolved the issue.

I’m starting to think there may be no real solution to the problem.

Don’t do that. They have told me the same thing and they are answering us in the same ways, like some sort of pre-set answers.
In the last mail they told me that i have to contact my provider, but i’m sure they are gonna tell me that everything is ok and the problem is on arenanet side, ‘cause my connection works fine with everything else.
We’re on the same boat here, and still no real anwers. Know that feel bro.

It’s because it’s the same problem. Your ISP only tests your initial connection to local servers. Your ISP has a contract with other providers across the nation. Sometimes these providers are terrible such as level 3 and telia.net. Your ISP will say it is not on their end, but they have a contract with those providers when your internet takes a certain route across the nation. In this case it goes to Texas and is hitting a terrible provider. Your ISP will claim ignorance but they do have some power over the issue although it is very unlikely they will change anything.

My ping is 50ish, and always over 60 FPS and I’m still experiencing terrible input lag that makes the game unplayable. It doesn’t happen on any other games either

EDIT:
Found the fix for me.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/27698133-Connectivity
I followed this article, at the very bottom it shows disabling background processes with
MSCONFIG. It turned out that one of the NVIDIA services was causing the problem, so I guess the new Geforce Experience update was the cause of my input lag. Hopefully this can help some of you too.

I understand what you’re saying (even if I live in europe, but probably providers works the same ways). I still wonder why i can play at any other games without problems, and why i’ve played for 2 years without problems and the first 2 days after i bought HoT i’ve played without any problems. Also after 1:AM everything works fine in game.

Well your route goes to a town in Germany. Idk the name of the city or town but if you played another mmo that had servers in the same city, you would have the same problems that you experience with gw2. Actually I have the same problem at times when Comcast takes me through a certain node, during prime time I have lag problems, then after 10 or 11 PM the lag goes away. Fortunately it only takes me on that route 1 to 2 times a week and I’m honestly not sure why it changes.

So the only solution for that is make a call to ISP hoping that he can do something about low quality nodes that we’re trying to connect to ncsoft servers? Maybe VPN stuff can help here?

Yes but you actually have Latency and packet loss from your modem. It’s relatively minor but that still in issue that you should be able to roll out with your ISP
