Hello,

My account was hacked last night. I never thought it would happen to me, but it did. What I lost was a full WvW karma set, around 150 badges of honor, and my dignity. I did notice that the hacker GAVE me like 7 gold, and a full berserker set. I’m sure he or she used my character to advertise for gold companies, though shudders… So, apparently A.net does not rollback character for this kind of thing, correct? Hopefully I am mistaken because I am asking for my characters items, or at least my badges of honor, back. I’m probably going to have to wipe my HDD and add a mobile authenticator now. So, please A.net, let me have fun with my pre-hijacked longbow ranger!

They have the account restoration now if you meet the guidelines. Put in a support ticket for help.

I didn’t see a specific designation for Account Restores when I submitted my ticket Tuesday night. I think I just put it under whatever the general account issues category is called. I’d check, but I can’t remember which of my 90000001 passwords this week is set up for my support account.

I’ve just checked my account finding it be hacked and used…. (repulsive disgusting “hacker” )
who knows what they have been doing with “MY” account.
I am not even able to use my own original character, that I myself have not touched since HALLOWEEN mind you… when i even try to use my own character it gives me a: someone else is using your character from another location junk and when i go to recent location logins I CAN’T even disconnect the other locations!

It disgusts me how they taint MY account.
NO one but ME should ever be allow to touch MY account!!

Yes I’m AM ANGRY.

Of course i did the right thing after finding out what happened and did something i shouldn’t of had to do, but was standard procedure…
I subbmitted a ticket.

I only play from one computer. I hardly download anything at all. And if I do its from big sites that i trust. I got a good firewall and a good antivirus program.

I also got hacked. How? The only way I know they can get my email AND password is from my computer. But if they dont have a keylogger program on my computer. Then how is it done?

I have also requested a account restoration. Is there any point to play now when I wait? Or will I loose all that i get now b4 the restoration?
I must say that its not that fun to play on a french server(I got moved to one).
But I got nothing better to do today.

Sadly, even if you do have a good av/firewall, this will not stop everything. I work for a very big company and within the last month we have had 3 zero day viruses that have gotten through 4 layers of protection

So it’s been a few days since I opened up a ticket in game (not knowing that there was a Support site) before opening up an other ticket on the Support site, asking for an account restoration to before the time I was hacked. Support e-mailed me back with an automatic response, telling me to add a mobile authenticator, which I did. I e-mailed Support once again, and this time checked off the “I don’t need a reply” check box, since I don’t actually need a text-based answer to a question from Support. I was wondering what the ETA was for getting my character back? My family recently made the switch from Comcast to Verizon and I’m wondering if that’s having an effect on the time it’s taking Support to investigate my account. It’s been almost a week, and I’d like to have my character back before Christmas ends. Or at least my 150 badges of honor which the hacker heartlessly destroyed. To be honest with you, I could tell you the CD key, my characters name, my password and the credit card number of a card I used to buy some gems when the game launched. I also don’t know how I was hacked as I use Microsoft Security Essentials as well as Windows 7’s firewall to their full extent.

So to the community I’d like to know if any of you have had your accounts restored, what were the steps you took and how long did it take? Arenanet, could you also please respond if you have anything to say about this? Did I do something wrong? I’d like to start having fun again. Thanks.

Account restorations take a few days, beyond the reinstatement of the account. We do have a team working over the Christmas holidays, so you should be back on your account in in a few days. (I’m sorry for what happened. )

The problem with waiting for a few days is the fact that I can’t celebrate the Winterday celebrations with my guild in Fort Aspenwood. If it takes a few days, can the Guild Wars 2 support team at least let us know a timeframe on how long exactly would it take? A more concrete answer would be most beneficial to those of us who were hacked (myself included – I was transferred to a different server, and my inventory was essentially used for a materials/item bank – first time being hacked, ever, in any game). Letting us know if it’s 1-2 days or a week or a month would be most helpful to us.

From what I can gather (mostly from Gaile’s posts), the actual restore/rollback process is quite quick but researching when to restore/rollback the account to takes quite a lot of time. I think how much time totally depends on each case though.

I see…so the issue is not the restoration itself, but them investigating at which timeframe to reset? I guess that seems fair…speaking of which, Titan, I saw from some of your other posts that you were hacked before, how long did it take you to have your issue resolved?
