~ Among the Ashes [Dust] ~
(edited by Braxxis.7062)
Earlier today, my account was hacked. I don’t know how, I never went to any of the spam happy gold seller sites, but alas, it happened.
Regardless, I never received any sort of e-mail notification that someone from good ‘ol China was trying to log in to my account, or I would have happily declined it. I have managed to reacquire my account and change the password, and disconnect said China peoples from my account. However, the problem still remains that I wasn’t notified of this log-in attempt even though the e-mail address was not changed, and now I’m short a boatload of items and materials that were in my Bags and Bank.
I have submitted a ticket about this issue in hopes of fixing the loss of items but I’m creating this topic in the hopes that the issue of no e-mail notification can be addressed. I had to verify my own e-mail address not once, but twice, after having played the game for 2 and 3 days. Yet someone from China can just log into my account without the slightest difficulty?
Should also point out, he/she/them changed my server. I would like to return to my old one.

Was also hacked today, or perhaps yesterday. Gold seller. Ticket created. Still waiting to get the issue resolved. Cannot log in, due to “unauthorized access detected” message.
A authenticator application like Blizzard uses would remove these problems.
At 12:15pm EST Sept 13th my account was hacked. I didn’t use same email and password combos, I dont play other games other then on Xbox, and I don’t answer emails from my computer so I have no idea how I got hacked. I put in a hacked account ticket right away and also put one into ncsoft support as well thinking maybe it would be fixed faster, I wrote a blog about it on Facebook page and I mentioned it on a few forums. Not this one though since my account is linked to this forum so I could not make a reply here. Less than 48 hrs later it was resolved, thank you arenanet. One thing I would say to anyone who gets hacked and makes a support ticket is that you should definately put your email you want game to be under, your game key code and a current character name in gw2. All of these things make process faster since you are proving in the ticket that you own the game and that saves them time.
One thing I am confused about is that I have seen a video where Colin Johansen says that recovered accounts will be restored with all your items and characters from before you were hacked. Also I read a forum post made by Gail on guru saying the same thing to someone that was worried he would lose all his stuff. But in my message from support they said that they can not recover any items or characters lost by hacker. And of course the hacker that took my account whipped my inventory and money and gems clean. The only thing he left was what was on the character. Thank god for that atleast. So is this what’s gonna be the norm. Hopefully they stop telling people one thing and do another. Nobody should make promises they can’t keep.
don’t take this the wrong way, I may disagree with their preparedness of support but I hold high regards for Arenanet and their devs, just not a big fan so far of the support team. Then again they did recover my account in under two days. I do believe that some of my actions did speed up the process but I’m not sure. with that being said I am so happy to be back in game and for those who are not yet playing again from being hacked I have some advice. Try everything to make them aware that you are waiting and that you are the true owner of the account. See you in game

Reaper: Filled out all my details, so looking forward to hear from the support team. But is seems that either hackers bruteforce crack the passwords (which I really do not hope is possible… a simple “block IP after three wrong attempts” can prevent this), or they actually do more clever hack. I was in the middle og gaming, was thrown out of the game. Got an empty error message box, and then game crashed. After that I could not log in. So maybe they actually found an exploitable bug in the game. Let’s hope not. There are worrying many “hacked” issues, and it seems so silly when a simple authenticator application like we know them from Blizzard games could fix all of this.
If I had a company that made games, I would most certainly make sure that my support team worked in the weekends… actually I would make sure that they primarily worked weekends since that is where most people game. Now I had to play a lot of D3 and Realm of the Mad God just because I couldn’t play GW2 :P

Panzer — you seem to be laboring under the mistaken belief that support if 9 to 5. In fact, the team that works 24/7. We have people working in three or four countries, every day, all day, including weekends and holidays. We have more than doubled the support team, and we’re streamlining processes, as well.
Ill Reaper Ill — we have a full restoration service in Guild Wars, and will bring it to Guild Wars 2 very soon.
Braxxis — account compromises are seldom cut and dried and they take a bit of time to sort out. But since you submitted a ticket, you’ll be helped.
