Hacking attempts 1 day after joining?
Not sure, how many gold selling sites did you visit? :P
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!
I have not visited any, tyvm.
The people attempting to hack you have a list of email accounts and passwords that they are attempting to carry over from other websites. They obtained these emails from (1) previous successful hackings (2) previous successfil phishings or (3) security exploits in any site that requires you to register.
Since they have a list of emails and passwords that are already known to be linked, and people often use the same passwords, they’ve been trying each of them even before your account is created, hoping that eventually it will be a match and can steal your account.
Your email happens to be on this list. I’d recommend changing your passwords for EVERYTHING you use, including your email address.

using same email on some other services that might been hacked? Hopefully you have unique password at least. There was good blog post where dev spoke about getting hacked but cant find it now. but anyway the hackers probably got your email and maybe password (if you use same passwords in many services) by hacking some other game, fansite or something like that.
edit: ah swordsaged.
What forums have you registered with the email?
What other services did you use it on?
Is it featured anywhere in public?
Sounds like you were just part of a random swoop of someone’s database of emails and passwords, considering the kitten poor security used on a lot of Internet forums or even more serious services, if you use the e-mail for anything other stuff that cannot be found via searching/accessing your profile, chances are that at least your e-mail is in some database somewhere.
And strangely, this attempt happened only ten minutes after I purchased gems.
CN = China
Given their record against bots, I believe ANet has a security breach.

Thats odd, I started playing in the preopener and have not had any hack attempts, zero.
You must belong to a number of hacked websites. Use unique passwords, thats the best advice.
Well, it seems replies might be right. I checked my email account and apparently there was an attempt to access it from China four days ago. I have changed my passwords both on there, and on anet, using different passwords for each.
How can i change the email i use for anet? I don’t see that option in account management.
Maxi, I am confused. A hacker from China hacked an account 3 days before it was activated? China must be kicking our kitten in technology right now!
Edit; I did just wake up so I might be reading it wrong.
Where are you from? I mean what country?
Only reasons that can be you Used Pw and Email on Other sites / accounts / games and they got somehow hacked. ( Or someone have access to your email )
I use a Email ONLY for gw2 and a Pw ONLY for gw2 + Google authenthificator and iam Ultra safe ;-) ( btw never i lost a acc of a game even for 1 min ) and i play for like 15+ years online games

That’s the full post from Anet. They have blacklisted every password that has been attempted in this manner, so most of that hacking cannot be more than just wasted attempts.
You don’t need to change your email, and I’m not even sure if you can- send a ticket in to find out? But as long as you use a unique password here, don’t fall for phishing attempts, and you are smart where you go on the internet (no keyloggers/viruses), you should be perfectly fine.
Plus, you have the email verification, and they will soon have mobile authenticators. Get that once it’s out of the beta if you still feel security conscious (which is a good thing I might add!)

I’d highly suggest making a unique email only for GW2 that you will never touch that not only has a complicated email ID, but a complicated password that you write down somewhere.
Should never have a problem then, that’s what I do.

Contact support. Use a completly different email and a whole new password that is not too easy. I wouldn’t expect a reply for atleast 3 days, but it can happens that they reply to you earlier. I’ve changed my email a few times now. First time took nearly a month and the last time I asked for a change, it didn’t even take 24 hours.
why do you find it curious? GW2 is a succesful title concerning sales, of cause thousands of hackers are flogging here.
