Hi,

First i was having heating problems with my i5. I replaced my stock fan with an cooler master one and problem solved. My processor temps are around 45 – 55 C on load. Now my Gtx 660 reaching to 70-75 degrees on events with 1080p… When im idle gfx is around 30-35. Do i have to buy a new fan or reaching to these temps is totally normal? I never reached to these temps when playing other MMOs or games.

It is normal, gw2 is very stressing. You shouldn’t worry unless gpu goes beyond 80ºC.

It also depends on the exact model of the gtx 660. If it’s a reference design, nothing will help. If it’s an aftermarket design, you can increase fans speed to lower the temps.

Also clean your pc periodically, dust can increase a lot the temperatures.

Hi Ansau,

Thnx for the response. It’s an 3 years old Zotac Gtx660 Gddr5 2gb 192bit. I will try to increase fans speed with MSI Afterburner and see if i can lower to 65 – 70 C…

Looking at some reviews of that Zotac model, even being an aftermarket model the cooler is quite bad. Reviews have the gpu at around 70ºC at full, while other models from Gigabyte or MSI have way lower temps.

-It’s summer my friend, 70-75Celcius is quite normal for a graphics card. Get a can of compressed air and blow it to dust of it’s cooler and you will be fine. Also custom fan profile could help improve your thermals. You can manage it from msi afterburner.

You could try frame limiting. Do you actually need to see more than 30 fps?

Seriously? 30? While playing a game you need as much as you possibly can have. it’s not a movie.

30 is like 1 frame per 0.033 of a second. You’re saying you’re going to make that much more difference with less than 0.033 of a second? xD

Also frame limiting is one of many ways to reduce heat. Upto op to decide though.

:) With that logic all the hardware on the market for competitive gamers is a lie? 0,033 of a second does make a difference. Besides im not critisizing your idea of limiting frames to reduce heat im critisizing limiting it to 30. He could limit it to 60, which is most probably his display’s refresh rate, so all the excess computing power that’s used to render anything above that point where he cant perceive is not turning heat.

Well in-game does have that already built-in 30 fps limit. It works just fine imo. You won’t gain much more with more frames imo. Also more expensive hardware, more frames, more or less heat, really it’s a matter of, to each their own poison, so the saying goes.

Fps limiter only decreases temperatures when the hardware is rendering the game at several times more framerate than what you limit. Limiting at 30fps when you’re running the game at 40-50 doesn’t do much, because the hardware still needs to work at minimum of 70% which produces pretty much the same heat since it’s running at max speed and voltage to do that work.

Btw, beyond 30fps discussion is dull. It has been proved tons of times that more framerate is better. Another thing is if you are ok with a certain level, but that’s only a self-imposed limitation not a physic limit.
Some might not care about +30fps, while others cannot stand below 60fps.

30 FPS is far from fine, it looks and feels incredibly stuttery. Even 60 sometimes doesn’t feel smooth enough. But running at 60 FPS is an experience enhancement that can’t be overlooked
