If you haven’t blown the dust out of your laptop, I recommend doing so.
Chloe (Version 3):
[i7 930 @ 4.1Ghz (1.3875V) w/Cooler Master 120M][Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (stock)]
Already done that, there’s very little dust.
I can run games that use graphics and CPU intensive Crysis 3 engine all day long (a fairly stable 68 degrees) without worrying about being able to fry eggs on my CPU but not GW2 where the temperature climbs to the 80s and then suddenly rockets pass 90 after a short while …

Software does not overheat hardware.
If ur hardware overheats, theres a fault.
Be it manufacturing fault, user fault ..or degredation.
Cheak ur fans, make sure ur intakes r clean and unobstrcuted etc.
From the spec of ur ‘Laptop’ it doesnt look like it was built for gaming in mind, so its not surprising its getting toasting when under heavy load.

CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |
That will suck if patches nowadays attract dust when you install them…
Maybe the dust isn’t right at the exit, but far more in the tiny pipes. Anyway, 80° may be perfect to have some toasted bread in the morning, that taste good
This game lets your CPU work pretty hard, so it’s normal that it become hot. So extra cooling is needed when you play with a laptop. (I have like a fan tablet where i can put the laptop on it. It’s from zalman with one big fan. Pretty powerful stuff)
This game is CPU intensive at the best of times, if you have full culling turned off, and are running into a zerg in WvW it has to render so much more information than normal, my guess is that its pushing your CPU to near full load, espically given the limited cooling a laptop can have, have you turned culling completely off and see if that helps????
Technically software does overheat hardware, just indirectly.
Well software can pretty much fry the cpu and yeah its possible. I noticed small heat gain after the culling patch. MY i7 would usualy max out at 61-62 before now it reaches 64 somtimes. Sure its a small gain but its only in gw2 nor other stuff like prime95 or links etc had any temperature gains even after 24 h test.
I experienced similar problems as well. Post culling patch and running GW2 overheats my CPU pass 70 degrees. Tried cleaning off dust from heat sinks and even had a fan directly blowing onto the motherboard. Problem still persisted.
Solved it tho, i reduced the maximum processor state to 89% (from 100%). I’m running on Windows 7
Control Panel >> System & Security >> Power Options >> Change plan settings (your current power plan) >> Change advanced power settings >> Processor power management >> Maximum processor state
Set it to 89% or lower. I learned this off some forums elsewhere. I can’t pinpoint the exact nature of the problem, but at least these steps will go about it.
