Hi. Ever since I got this game, I’ve been having really heavy screen tearing. Its literally everywhere and makes it difficult to play sometimes, and very displeasing to look at.
I’ve attached a screen shot showing what I’m talking about.
Anything I can do? I tried updating my graphics cards driver before, and then lots of problems happened and i had to restore.

Hi tschomb – Could you please attach a Game Advisor report to the thread so that we can look into this issue a little further?

You can download the application by clicking the link below:
http://us.ncsoft.com/gameadvisor/

Please note that you will be automatically prompted to download the application upon clicking the link.

Additionally, could you also attach a screenshot of your in game graphics settings as well?

This seems to be a common issue with some ATI Mobility cards and obsolete drivers (from 2010).

When you said that you tried to update the drivers and problems happened, what did you mean exactly?

When i updated my drivers, it stated that I had no graphics driver installed, and nothing worked.

At some point, AMD stated that obsolete hardware will have no support in new driver versions.

Have you tried using this tool by AMD?
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx

I suggest making a restore point (should things go wrong again) so that you can easily revert back.

At some point, AMD stated that obsolete hardware will have no support in new driver versions.

Then why do 12.8 release notes list 5400 series as supported?

Technical Support

Hi tschomb – First, I would recommend updating to Service Pack 1. You can do this by clicking the “Start” button and typing in “Windows Update” in the search bar and downloading all the most critical updates for Windows.

Once you’ve done that, if you haven’t already, I’d like for you to try AMD’s Driver Verification Tool to locate the newest drivers for your card: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx

Hope this helps!

At some point, AMD stated that obsolete hardware will have no support in new driver versions.

That is not what they said.

AMD/ATI stated that older series cards (4xxx and prior) will only receive periodic legacy updates, meaning every 6 months. Those updates will contain bug-fixes only, as they claim that the older series have already been optimized to their full potential.

“AMD has moved to the AMD Radeon™ HD 4000, AMD Radeon HD 3000, and AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series new driver support model. These updates will focus on resolving application specific issues and critical updates. The reason for the shift in support policy is largely due to the fact that the AMD Radeon HD 4000, AMD Radeon HD 3000, and AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series have been optimized to their maximum potential from a performance and feature perspective.”

This does not mean you cannot run with the newest drivers on the “older hardware,” it just means that you shouldn’t expect improved performance with them.

I have had issues with ati 5400/5500 series and drivers with some games. using older drivers fixed most issues and in some cases improved performance.
I went back to nvidia over their drivers.

Have you tried changing the render mode? I was having that issue on one mode but when I went to supersampling one its been great since (and looks better)

Fixed. Turns out my monitor was plugged into my motherboard as opposed to my graphics card. Just plugged it in the right place and presto. bumped all the graphics up to ultra and the game runs perfectly.
