It is expressly forbidden in the ToS to loan, borrow, give away, buy, sell, etc. your or another’s account. You can read more about this issue via the ‘Legal’ link below.

Your choice. Good luck.

Your account is supposed to represent you. So if something goes wrong because of somebody else being on your account, you’re screwed, because the account is you. However this is different where it can be seen by Anet in logs that somebody hijacked your account, stole all your stuff, then started advertising RMT.

Funny thing is, when Anet bans via IP address, and thus several people can get banned for one person’s stupidity. This would be where it’d be important to convince customer support that you are not the same person. Not sure how tho. You would think obviously that it’d have to be severe to require an IP ban to be used. Reminds me of when a RMT seller/botter started using a W.TFast server in Germany to do his activities, and then everybody on that IP address got banned, along with the offending user. It was fixed later tho. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2x5x9y/apparantly_alot_of_gw2_players_just_got_banned_by/

ArenaNet generally do not ban IP addresses.

They are fully aware of the problems of banning IP addresses.

They will just ban an account, that doesn’t stop other accounts or new accounts from being played from that computer or IP.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

Why would they not be? And yes you’re right.

Because it would be counter-productive.

Why would they block IP addresses and stop another member of a family playing just because your mother/son/dog (Insert family member here) cheated and got banned.

Back in November I believe they did just that. They banned all accounts associated with ips using 3rd party software. There were a few people that posted because they were banned because they had shared there account with that individual.

That is exactly what they do – they don’t permanently ban actual IPs, they ban everyone that’s associated with it. If you cheat, everyone will be banned because they’ll assume it’s all you. In the past, they’ve banned everyone using a certain WTFast server for example due to botters, though only temporarily as they sorted out who was who. In this case, if you borrow someone’s account and they later get banned, your account will be associated with theirs due to their account once logging in from your account’s IP, resulting in a ban of your account. It happened to someone else fairly recently, though after admitting to account sharing, ArenaNet unbanned their account.

If you want to safely borrow an account, login from their IP. Setup a tunnel with them acting as the host. Alternatively, use a VPN service to mask yourself.

To help your friend do the jump puzzles (trust me, I am terrible at them and needed help). Just get on a mesmer for them and do portals. I know it’s slow, but it’s at least done within the limits Anet allows.

I’m a Moose, a ginger moose even.

Doesn’t the Wintersday JP block out your skills? If so, a mesmer isn’t going to be able to help, unfortunately.

I’m not certain, but if you both log in get into a party together, you can then try to go in and out of the JP until you are both in the same instance of the puzzle. You might then be able to get to the end of the JP and your friend can then use the ‘Teleport to friend’ (party member) item and they’d teleport from the start of the puzzle to you at the end of the puzzle. That is, if ANet hasn’t already disabled that item from being usable in the JP. They may only be usable in the open world. I’m not certain. Again, no idea if this would actually work or not, just an idea of something to try that isn’t against the ToS like doing the JP on their account for them would be.
