Guild Wars 2

I’ve noticed that many online retailers are still carrying the standard and Heroic Edition GW2 boxes, with several in the $10-15 range. Are these still usable with the f2p update and Heart of Thorns expansion changes, or are buyers wasting money on them?

Also related, a friend was wondering about getting the paid benefits but without the expansion content. If the aforementioned products are still viable, can they be used to upgrade a f2p account to a standard paid one sans expansion benefits?

From what I’ve read, you can still use those codes. You’ll still have to pay 50$+ if you want the expac later, but if you don’t want the expac, those box editions are certainly an option. I believe the only thing you can’t do is buy the standard versions through DIGITAL means (since those have been bundled with HoT).

Did you find out anything on this? I bought the Heroic Edition online, and it works ok. I can go to Lions Arch, and leave the early zones. The f2p chart says that would be blocked, but I can still do those things, and my account page shows a full active copy.

However, I cannot sell things on the trade shop or buy things. I was running out of space too so had to throw away items, until a mate sent be some bags.

It says I have to wait 4 days. It also says I have to upgrade to hot but I paid for the game, so can’t afford to pay again really. A person responded in a post I made (here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Can-t-access-items-on-trade-post/first#post5539560 ) that said it would go normal after the 4 days though so I will see. I hope so.

If not I can reverse the charge hopefully, but they should tell retailers not to sell these copies if they will not work. That’s unfair. Plus, I’ll have to start over again.

If the TP doesn’t unlock after 4 days (which is the standard lock-out time for any account), you can contact the CS Team for assistance via the ‘Support’ link above/below and ‘Submit a Request’. I’m sure they will be happy to help.

You have a full account, but you will not have access to the expansion coming out, and the edition you bought does not include it.

Perusing the Knowledge Base, I see the unlocks may not activate for up to 5 days, so you might want to wait an extra day or two before contacting the CS Team.
