Here is what I am seeing in this thread, allot of people from all over the globe are having ping (latency) issues well before christmas by some ways this issue has individually been explained. After all this when are we going to see a Dev. or some one that isn’t a moderator going to address this? Yes, we are addressing it here. Our ISP providers aren’t the one at fault for a connection that isn’t stable because of new software from a developer. When the communication between computer and server from multiple people on the planet have latency issues topping out at 5000, and you want us to talk to an ISP? Nice cop out.

Run a trace route to show the packet loss is on their end. Then submit a support ticket with the data. I just ran one and I’m not having packet loss from their servers. It might be just some servers that are having an issue. But you have to prove it isn’t your ISP or other issues by running a trace route.

try typing /ip in game chat and hit enter take that number and put it in a program called pingplotter. Its free, it provides way more info than ANET tracing. I found out my problem area which is a server in Dallas called DAllas1.Level3 yada yada. Called ISP they confirmed my trace as well and told me they cant reroute that because its Anet who chooses to use it to route to their server…. so ANET needs to reroute us so hopefully they will cause I have had this crap happen for weeks now and found out the issue of 80-100% packet loss 2000+ ping/lag spikes and its not on my end.

Anet doesn’t choose the route your ISP is taking you to get to their servers. Your ISP is saying that to get you off their back. Technically you could say it’s Anets fault because their servers are in Seattle and that is the route your ISP goes to access servers in Seattle. In an upside down sort of way they can blame Anet for it but Anet can’t do anything about it. Yes Anet chose to put their servers in Seattle. So have a lot of other companies I’m sure. So Basically they are giving you the run around.

After some testing using a VPN client, I found I can solve my problems doing that. So I seem to be one of the victims of being routed over flawed data centers.
Which if I understood it right, is neither the fault of my ISP nor Arenanet (nor Ncsoft). So it seems using a VPN is the only option for me right now, if I want to play GW2.
Only good thing is, there are free VPN access options around these days.

Sadly though, I experience more game crashes since I started using the VPN client. Still more crashes beats totally unplayable. It isn’t great though.

If you happen to stumble across any typos,
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.

Yeah I’m trying to think of a good metaphor for how this works but nothing sticks. You’re right in that it isn’t really the ISP’s fault. But I think if someone has to take the “blame” for it I would look more toward the ISP over Anet. You could change your ISP (unless you live somewhere where there are no options) and that could end up changing the route and fix it. I guess you could say you could change games as well which would change the route and also “fix” it. Honestly I don’t know a lot about this topic. I’m not sure but I think you can get your ISP to take a different route. They most likely aren’t going to but I think it is possible.

Edit: I did some digging and from what I gather ISP’s all “work” together and negotiate how your route to a specific location is going to happen. So it is possible for an ISP to change their route to something better if there is a better option. But one person complaining is unlikely to get you anywhere.

Then run ping-plotter or trace-route and determine where the problem is. Once you know where the problem contact the right company. If it was a problem with Anet every single player would have the problem.

To everyone that only posts a picture of their options to show what their current ping is at:

You do realize how useless that piece of information is. For all anyone knows, your computer could be running a scan and slowing everyting down.

If you really want to do something, you need to trace your internet connection to Anet’s servers and see where the problem is. Most of the time, it’s not at Anet’s server, or their ISP so it isn’t actually an issue on them.

The easiest one to use is ping plotter. Google it and when you are having the lag issues, run it and see where the problem is. If it really is happening at Anet’s servers/ISP, you can send it to them so they can look into it. A picture of high ping is going to get you no where, and it won’t get fixed.

I too suffers the high ping since 26th Jan patch. Previously was playable at 200ms but now it often spiked up to 4k ping with high packet loss seen in pingplotter result. I’ve sent the screenshot to the support and hopefully they fix it soon.

Everyone who has ping issues PLEASE read the quoted post by Ellieanna.

Don’t just post my ping is ???, its unplayable. This does nothing to help you. If you care enough to post, then why not care about getting it fixed? Run “Ping Plotter” and post the results. That is the ONLY way to determine where the problem is.

If any of the moderator reads this thread (Gaile?). We really need a sticky providing information on how to address lag. 75% of people are coming here to complain and aren’t reading the thread which discusses how to address it such as running ping plotter.

I think a sticky would help because as you can see I repeat myself over and over. Nobody is reading my previous posts (Or Ellieanna’s, thanks for trying tho). However people read “red” posts. It would be a good move for player retention because Players may wrongly blame Anet for these issues and leave the game or request a refund.

Personally I am not going to put much more effort into this thread or threads like this. I hate thinking we lose players because they mistakenly think Anet has bad servers. But it gets old posting the same thing multiple times even on the same page.

I hope a moderator reading this considers this suggestion or maybe passing it onto Gaile. Thank you!

I’ve only play instruments on GW2 but for the past few days it’s been so difficult because of the lag I just can’t play them. I’ll start to play a song and then I can’t hear some of the notes and when I octave change it goes to the octave beyond the one I wanted. My ping is at 100 but usually that is fine but not here lately.
