We had a very large guild. At the 500 member cap, with hundreds of active players. Over the last few days a player had been messaging all of our officers saying he was an officer and that he demoted himself by accident. When he finally found an officer that bought his story , and was promoted to officer, he booted every officer from the guild including me (The founder), and changed the permissions so nobody can invite . I guess a lot of it is my fault, I assumed that the founder of the guild couldn’t be kicked. I’m still waiting on a response from Anet, I’m really hoping for the best, it took half a year to get our guild fully upgraded.

Huge loss for so many people on our server.

Unfortunately, for your guild, ArenaNet has a hands-off policy regarding Guild politics. Nothing much you can do, but start another guild. Sorry to hear about your loss.

No politics, we were scammed and robbed.

To be honest, your officers didn’t seem to know who each other were if they allowed some random person they didnt know to talk them into promoting someone just because he messaged them with a story.

The permissions had to have been set up sloppy if an officer is allowed to kick a guild leader. An officer should only have permission to admin lower ranks, not equal or above ranks. The guild permissions are there for a reason. If your guildies don’t know who is who, if the permissions are sloppy, then something like this was bound to happen sooner or later.

ANet doesn’t get involved in these sort of situations. You know that person would say, “he gave me that guild and now he regrets it”. How is ANet supposed to sort out conflicting claims of who did what.

I was looking over the rank permissions, and the only ones than can kick a Leader, are Leaders themselves. If one of the Officers promoted someone to Leader, just because this person asked, I would think that person would be the one to speak to. As well, as learning the lesson of ‘Never give the ability to promote someone to Leader, but the Leader him/herself’.

Wow, never heard of anything like that.

Your right, the founder, the original person who spent money to create the Guild should not be allowed to be kicked out!!! Some one needs to have ownership of a Guild and that shouldn’t change unless the owner transfers the ownership of the guild to some one else!

Anet should have procedures in place for that, otherwise the whole Guild creation/ownership is just broken.

citizensway — I am so sorry this happened. I hope that your guild, which sounds wonderful, rebounds from this situation and that you are able to play a leadership role in that effort. I suggest a very small number of leaders, and frequent communication between all of them. In my guild, no one is promoted without a vote of the leaders. This really helps prevent nefarious activities. Anyway, all the best to you and your guildies!

Not necessarily, Sola. Consider someone who creates a guild and then decides that he no longer can manage the guild, so asks one or more of his officers to serve as guild leader. Say that person leaves Guild Wars 2 entirely. Should the guild be unable to perform certain functions because, long ago, an person who is no longer around created the guild?

There are no guild “owners.” There are guild leaders, and they should be chosen with care. There are rights ascribed to each rank, and those, too, should be chosen with care.

Too, very, very few guilds are “paid for” by a single individual; rather, they receive their upgrades through the concerted effort of the entire guild membership.

We’re always very sorry to hear about situations where someone abuses the trust that others place in him and does mischief to a guild. But this is preventable with the carefully monitored use of the guild rank and rights/privileges already built into the guild system.
