I implore all of you who are tired of this nonsense, which is a small example of the horrors awaiting us on the death of net neutrality, to stand up for what’s right. You pay for a service you expect to work, and now it’s time to let them know.

Call 1 800 837 4966 and make your voice heard. Tie up their lines with complaints and help keep the internet open to anyone and everyone!

Is Verizon playing games with everyone. No pun intended. After reading all the work arounds I decided not to try them as I had something to do. I got home around 1 AM ,EST and lo and behold I was able to download everything.
After todays patch I am back to square one.
Call Verizon and complain!

Easiest workarounds are using Google DNS and updating your host file, both can be found in this section of the forum!

The host file thing did not work for me, but.

This works very easily

1: Download a program called Spotflux, run the program
2: Run the game
3: When all the files are downloaded, you will notice you wont be able to log in. Disable Spotflux or delete the program altogether

Stop trying to act like some silly one man army freedom fighter. This is just a hiccup in the system and there is a simple fix. Ranting and raving just to get attention is not gonna fix the problem.

This is not about NET NEUTRALITY guys. This is about some incompetent tech or engineering setting up something wrong within their network.

Now it is possible that the reason the changes are being made is due to Network usage reconfiguration related to the NET NEUTRALITY argument / issue…..but we will never know….could just be installation of new equipment and the guy installing it doesn’t know how properly because Cisco changes their firmware like toilet paper rolls to prop up their lucrative certification programs.

Hiccup or not you pay for a service you expect to work and it’s convenient their systems start this hiccup on a patch day.

Second, I’m not a one man army, especially if I’m calling on others who are annoyed like myself to complain.

Now, is this Verizon trying to strong arm NCSoft for more money or something? No, but this is the kind of thing we will get if Verizon wins the fight. That’s why I posted a number and called for those who are annoyed to complain, so it gets fixed.

I agree, this has NOTHING to do with net neutrality and it was pointless bringing up WildStar…. If you wanted to make a difference you would set up a petition and advertise or make calls worth something, not this childish “lets tie up their phones!!!”

Plus, Anet has already made a statement regarding Verizon and they are awaiting response. Making this post like you have, you may as well call the white house and demand to speak to the president because you cant play your game!

Nonsense.

It’s in Verizon’s best interest to properly provide service to their customers and they will fix it. These things happen from time to time and they will for the rest of your life. Taking the approach you outlined in your initial post solves nothing and is not a mature way of dealing with such problems.

Furthermore, Anet has no control over how Verizon operates. They also have no control over internet DNS problems or the route data takes to/from their servers to your computer – none.

As far as “net neutrality” goes; the internet already works that way and I certainly hope that a bunch of bureaucrats that don’t know the difference between a node and a packet don’t find a way to mess up a system that generally works pretty well.

Is the internet perfect? No. Nothing is.

Here’s the odd thing. Tuesday night I tried to get on and got the 0.0 KB/s problem. Wednesday I was off work and had no problem logging on and playing 2 hours a piece in the morning and then the afternoon, but had the 0.0 KB/s that night. Today (Thursday), logged on at 8 am EST to see if it worked and I had no problem getting on and then I tried again at 6 pm EST and no problem. Just now I tried to log on at 7:30 pm EST and back to the 0.0 KB/s. What does this mean? I have no idea, but if it is a Verizon Fios problem it seems to only be in the evening.

If it’s a Verizon problem then how come I can download and play/ patch several other games on my computer without any issues ??? I’ve been in touch with Anet support and I will wait for a serious solution from Anet.

I was just online with Verizon chat support. It’s an issue on ANET’s end. Think about it, why am I able to play other games but not guild wars 2? I think it’s an issue with the latest expansion and the recent release in China. The servers might be overloaded and not responding to the DNS servers quickly enough. This needs to be remedied quickly.

To be honest, that DIRECTLY implies some sort of scheduled changes in their network routing (usually due to some sort of planned bandwidth throttling, but that’s just a guess). I think if you report that information to your provider and ASK directly if throttling is being performed (and if that is ALLOWED per your paid plan), you may get more response than just saying, “it’s not working”. By response, I mean the problem may magically disappear for your connection (as they DO NOT want the term “throttling” to be whispered near their services….).

And yet other provider networks do not have any issues with Anet servers….and if Verizon users change their DNS service (or HOST file) it also works…..hmmm.

Because they don’t use the same download sever that YOUR ISP network DNS cannot properly connect you to? I have no ideas of the details, but others with similar issues report that it ONLY seems to happen during evening hours…what ISPs would consider “peak” times. That points DIRECTLY to the ISP scheduling some sort of PEAK hour tier of service (likely data throttling), that is changing their routing configuration in some way so that the Anet download servers are not being allowed to provide you the needed files to get the update (keep in mind, I don’t think that is intentional, just something setup incorrectly that they need to fix). From the information I have seen, it appears to be a failure in DNS back from the ANet servers to the ISP customers (and again, only during evening hours for some customers).

Also, there is a workaround for this issue if you would just look on the forums for it. If you point your DNS to Googles DNS server all works fine (which PROVES its a Verizon network issue).

If it were an issue with the ANet download servers NOBODY would be able to get the updates, not just THAT particular ISPs customers. I get your frustrated with the issue and tired of finger pointing, but this is being caused by the company you PAY to provide you internet service, not Anet.
