How do I stop the kitten ed launcher spamming me every few logins to register for SMS.
I CAN’T RECEIVE SMS AT HOME so this ‘service’ is useless even if I felt inclined to use it, so please stop pestering me!

It’s intentional that it annoys you. Weak security is a vulnerability to ArenaNet.
You can either setup an authenticator, or bypass the launcher entirely using the -email, -password and -nopatchui options. There is no way to simply disable the message.

My security is perfectly fine, but in any case as I said the point’s moot as I can’t receive SMS message at home.
Thanks for the command-line options, bypassing the launcher seems a good idea for several reasons.

Or use the PC authenticator prog. Worked for me.

Even land-lines can receive SMS (there’s a voice option). Personally, I wouldn’t make my account even less secure with that command-line argument method, rather than using WinAuth (no phone necessary) or land-lines, but that’s just me.
Good luck.

I use the WinAuth authenticator instead of SMS. Works well.

With increasing frequency, I’m getting this nag screen when I log in about how I should enable 2-step verification using SMS. And there’s no way to turn it off.
To say this is starting to become a nuisance is putting it mildly. I already HAVE 2-step verification using e-mail. I’ve actually had it since the day you created the option. And since my e-mail address is in my corporate domain (a domain owned by me) chances it gets stolen, hacked or otherwise abused are vanishingly small, so I rather think it’s quite secure, thanks.
So could you PLEASE add an option ‘not interested, stop bothering me’ to the nag screen?

Dear developers,
Please make the game stop nagging me for a mobile phone number. I said no, and I mean no. Continually putting pop-up windows in the way of my gameplay will not change my answer; it will only irritate me and make me less likely to buy your products in the future.

I agree with this. “Remind me later” is not the option I want.

Before anyone else posts in this thread with an argument about why we should accept the current behavior, please think about this:
If you ask for my phone number in person, and I say no, pushing me for it will not help. Explaining why you think you deserve it will not help. Telling me how you think my life will be better if I give it to you will not help. Telling me how you think your life will be better if I give it to you will not help. All this persistence will do is irritate me and make it very clear that you are an aggressor who feels entitled.
The world has too many guys like that in it already. Don’t be that guy. Don’t be another one.

That’s the thing, they are asking for players to secure their accounts for the security of the game. For all of the players of the game.
And you can put on the desktop authenticator and not give them a phone number and the hounding will stop.
Are you willing to come up with the gold to combat the inflation that gold sellers create? To pass out to everyone who did sign up for SMS or the desktop authenticator?
Are you willing to pay for the increased support that ANet has to hire to deal with more people getting hacked?
They make all new accounts get SMS protection. They decided to compromise with existing players by not forcing them to get it as well, which they would have been within their rights to do.

That would be a partly valid argument ONLY if there was no other method of two-step verification AND you were not already using that other method.
As to the PARTLY valid… I work in IT, professionally. I deal with a lot of security related documents. Let’s just say we’re underwhelmed about the inherent security of mobile phones and smartphones, shall we? Even people who do their bank stuff using one, tend to not secure the things. And they get stolen all the time.
So being security conscious, I’ve opted for using e-mail. Better yet, e-mail that goes to a domain I personally control. Things would have to go pretty wrong on a corporate level for that e-mail to be compromised. Secure enough, I’d say.
But still I get nag screens…. and it’s become a matter of principle by now. I WILL NOT use SMS verification.

Research how the recent compromise of some high-ranking US official (FBI maybe, not sure) got his e-mail hijacked by his e-mail provider being socially engineered.
I too have my own domain but for convenience and ISP-independence, I think it no more secure than any other as it still employs people.

And there are Windows DESKTOP authenticators that can be set up. So you don’t have to have the protection go via SMS and get rid of the nag.
So there are options other than the SMS one for anyone who stops and actually researches the options.

These are entirely worthless, if they’re on your desktop they vulnerable like the client.
