How to _enable_ email authentication?
ArenaNet Communications Manager
Poke, it says that the authentication system is on for your account. Your observations are worth pursuing, for not getting an email from a nearby location isn’t too concerning — I think the system takes into account the dynamic IP situtaiton — but not getting one when you’re in a completely different location raises a question in my mind.
I will PM about this.

What about every other account that has this issue Gaile? I made a very detailed ticket and got an automated response and that is it. The ticket is closed and needs to be reopened until it is resolved. I will continue to make tickets until someone actually ACKNOWLEDGES my issue.

I don’t think email auth is enabled on mine, can’t seem to find out since I got errors when trying to go through with it when I installed this game a few weeks ago.

I currently log in with @ncsoft, but it asks to put in a valid email. I put in my actual/current email & it says its already in use. Long ago, I tried GW1 & I think it is still registered under that email that I’m currently trying to link. Any help would be greatly appriciated to get my email linked to this GW2 account so I can have the email authentication up.
This is not really the issue, the system as Gaile points out takes into the account dynamic ip address when you press remember this network button.
I also have it and this is how it work
1st login, get email for auth with ip from a 93.xx.xx.xx range, auth, tick remember network, the system remembers that range and geographical location (let’s say Novi Sad for example)
the next time you get a new ip, let’s say you get the ip from the same range (93.xx.xx.xx) you will not need to auth because the system remembered that network range and the geographical location is still the same (Novi Sad as in the above example) this is because the internet provider which gives out dynamic ip address usually buy entire ranges like that and tie them to one central in the city.
If that central has no free available ip addresses, it will redirect you to another to get it from there, in which case you will get a new ip from a new range, let’s say 173.xx.xx.xx , and will need to authorize again because that ip does not have the same range (it’s not 93.xx.xx.xx range) or the geographical location as the previous one, (let’s say this one is not in Novi Sad, rather somewhere in Belgrade)

Hiya Gaile! Could you please check and see if mine is on? I made a ticket and haven’t heard back yet. I’m kinda worried about since I had to disable it earlier due to not getting the emails. if it’s off, could you kindly turn it on again?
Thanks!
I’m wondering too if the email authentication is enabled for my account. As far as I remember I never got asked to authenticate an IP address (changing every 24hours here) or a network of some sorts and I never disabled the authentication myself.
I created a ticked two days ago, the ticket number is 120918-001732
Would love some clarification.
same problem for me
almost 2 weaks ago, i tried logging in to my account management via my smartphone/mobile broadband – had to authenticate the connection (did NOT check the “remember network” box)
some days ago i logged in via smartphone…no email authentication needed
is the authentication failsafe activated for my account?
it would be cool to see the email-authentication status in your account management

I just tested this, I do indeed have auth enabled as I got a page telling me “awaiting auth” and went to check my email and there it was, I’m glad I do.

My e-mail authentication attempt failed during the last beta when they turned it on. Ever since, I’ve never got it at login and the old e-mail doesn’t work. There’s no link anywhere I can find to turn it on.
When you tout this as THE way to protect accounts you have.. you may want to make sure people can enable it.. :/
I had a similar issue occur. The first time email authentication got turned on for everyone i had received an email on my account and had to authenticate. I use gmails 2 step authentication also. I went to my friends house who lives across the highway and logged in expecting to get a message saying i needed to verify. Unfortunately this did not occur and worried me.
I don’t think my e-mail authentication is working. I was able to play during the 3 day headstart without confirming my ip via email. We need a way to view all approved ip addresses and resend the verification email to ourselves.
My e-mail authentication is not working either. I went to my brother’s house a county away logged in without it restricting my access. I would really appreciate it if this can be looked into. Thank you!
ya my email authentication is turned off also and i havent been able to figure out how to turn it on. i do know that my account was hacked earlier this week and i believe it was because the authentication was turned off and would really like to know how to turn it on but i dont know how….
