In Queensdale I frequently see characters suddenly appear next to a gathering node, farm it, and disappear. Sometimes I see the same characters doing it all over the zone.

I’ve been trying to memorize their names, friend them, then report them as bots. But I’m not sure they’re botting, I figure they’re probably hacking somehow. They appear and disappear so fast it’s difficult to remember their names, especially if it’s a long or complex name.

What is the best way to handle this? Report as bot as what?

My best suggestion to you is to be quick. When you see them all of a sudden appear, click on them and then very quickly right click on their portrait and add them to your contacts list. From there, you can report the account for botting. Your other alternative is to take a screenshot when they are gathering at the node, and use that to gather the name. You cannot easily report them via the Support function, but you can add them to your contacts and report them from there. Once reported, don’t forget to remove them from your contacts so the list doesn’t grow too huge.

Report as a bot.

Apparently another way is to quickly right-click on their portrait, select “Whisper”, then quickly send them a nonsense message like “test” or “Caught!”. You can then right-click on their name from the chat window and report them that way. I prefer not to use this method as I’d rather the bot not know who was the person who reported them, however.

Apparently this is not a new problem, I saw a bunch of posts about this in the “Bot Hot Spots” thread.

I’ve been doing all the recommendations…screencapping, friending, etc…and reporting as bots.

I usually right click them and whisper them “hi”. Since they’re bots, they never even notice that I’ve whispered them, but it lets me click their name in chat to report them for botting.

Where is this bot hotspot thread of which you are talking about. I tried to find it a little while ago but with no luck (even if searching). Link?

Thanks. Perhaps you should sticky it? Because searching for bot hot spot didnt turn up anything. It might be good to link to it as well in the appropriate stickies about botting in the various subforums.

Alternatively put an index thread at the top of the forum linking to all the threads that are almost sticky worthy to save clutter.

I think this is one people notice more, rather than going to the account section. At the very least a link in the first post of that thread, to the bot hot spots thread would go a long way. Perhaps making a consolidated post on all the info, links etc that are related to botting, what you are doing about it, how to report etc.

I think you should sticky this thread and link to it from the thread listed in the quote above. It will make it easier on everyone to direct people to the sticky thread.

Pretty much all over Queensdale on Tarnished Coast server, but especially right outside the Divinity starting area.

First few times I saw it I thought it was culling. Then I started seeing the same names again and again, and other players started calling them out on map chat. I was able to report a few of them by friending them and right-click reporting as bots.

They had real names, guild tags, and gear so I assume they’re stolen accounts.

I saw this happen a couple of times and thought I was glitching. Awesome that we can notify the map area though, botters are part of the reason my crafter can’t sell anything on the market as everything’s flooded.

Tbh, i’d leave it unsticky, no sense in advertising to the botters where you’re going to be looking.

Failing that, could we have a submission form to fill in instead, or a criteria on /bug?

My issue is that WE have to handle this for Anet.. Why do we have to police their inability to control bot (again mind you, this problem has been around since launch)..

Anet GET on the problem. Do not make us, the paying customer, have to fix the lax controls you have when it comes to botting..

The best thing, I will infracted for calling this out.. /shrug..

What if I have fraps of one of them appearing and disappearing pretty incriminatingly?
