Hmm…if that is a phishing email, it’s a new one to me. Either it is a phishing email, or someone else has contacted Customer Support and asked to have the email address associated with your account changed. I would contact Customer Support immediately, as well as change your passwords.

I assume this is a phishing attempt.

The web address for the link was to account-dev.ncplatformDOTnet…. That didn’t look right to me, so I never clicked it to find out.. I will change my pw, but I have been able to login since the email was sent. So I think it was just phishing…

I would still contact Customer Support. If someone is trying to have the email associated with your account changed, it would be best to let Customer Support know that that is not something you desire. If no one has any of your log-in information, no harm, no foul. Better safe than …a compromised account.

Edit: I looked this site up on WhoIs, and it does seem rather questionable. It may be the latest in a long line of phishing attempts. If so, you should bring it to ArenaNet’s attention, as there are a lot of people requesting email changes right now, and this email could slip in unnoticed by those expecting a reply from Customer Support.

got this too. changed email and acct passwords and added the 2-step authentication.

Edit: Did you register for the Edge of the Mists Beta? Since I got my registration confirmation for it soon after, I now suspect that the email I received was due to my email being officially registered for the beta.

Perhaps an Anet person can confirm?

I got 2 of the same emails after. Both from guild wars 2 alpha and Edge of the Mists. Both are with the same attempt as before, do not click on any of them. All the links go to the same place. /account-dev.ncplatformDOTnet.. Do not click on anything with this link.

Well our guild is registered for the Edge of the Mists Beta and several people are already downloading the client/patching and they got both emails.

Are you serious? I would contact support before downloading anything from this. My guild also got this (email change attempt followed by the email about alpha w/ the download link) but we agreed it’s EXTREMELY fishy and so we’re waiting to hear back from a dev on the issue.

But if you do find out what happens when your guildies complete the download will you please let the rest of us know?

Sure. I haven’t personally done any downloads and initially treated the first email as if it were phishing but honestly at this point it all kind of adds up.

Every person in the guild who first registered for the Beta has gotten these emails. It would be an odd coincidence if this were a scam.

Add on/ Edit: This is definitely legit.

The first email you get is because your email address has been submitted for registration for the beta, and the system basically sees an email address registration so you get an email telling you that your email as been changed, when in fact it is simply being registered for the EOTM beta, which has a seperate login.

The 2nd email is legit as well, despite the fact that it has some weird image coding issues as far as how it shows up in the email. I have followed the instructions in the email and am currently looking at a very legitimate replica of a normal GW2 Login window, except it is downloading the special EOTM beta client. This window is, quite literally, the same exact thing you see when you are loging in and/or patching an update. It is simply a separate beta client.

So, my conclusion is that people who have received an email stating that their email has been changed, and have subsequently received a “confidential” email regarding the beta should feel no reason to worry.

With that said…. See you in the Edge of the Mists. And no, I am not going to tell you anything further about how awesome it turns out to be, because that is against the EULA.

According to the official announcement, there is no NDA on this map, and it is not against the EULA to speak about it.

Definitely legit? Hmm.. I contacted the gw2 support team and asked them about this. They said it was likely a phishing attempt and did not come from them.

From Anet:
The e-mail you have received is not an official e-mail from the Guild Wars 2 Support Team or ArenaNet. It is most likely a phishing attempt, that is, is a means of attempting to gain your account log-in credentials through fraudulent e-mails. We will not send e-mails about account terminations or account compromise incidents, unless in response to a players e-mail or ticket. Any e-mails of this type are most likely malicious in intent so please DO NOT click on any links within that e-mail.

So, definitely legit.. Probably not…

Howdy all!

Just talked to Evan about this and yes, it’s legit. Invitations have been sent out and you should have received more than one email about the topic. It’s imperative that you read all these emails so you know more about the process (and how it’s not phishing/spam/et al).

I assume this is a phishing attempt.

Gmail is filtering out some of the email for the Mists Beta because it’s flagging them as fishing scams due to wording. Check your spam box and you should see an email regarding the email about confirming your email change. (And to ignore the confirm email because it means things are working)

Gun Devil, do NOT click any of the links in that email. That email is a well known phishing scam.

You’ll notice that in your email if you hover over the links they aren’t actually the links listed. If you’ve clicked any of those links quickly change your passwords for your email and account, and I suggest adding two-step verification to your guild wars 2 account as well.

Thank you Sendra. I didn’t click on any links. I never do in e-mails (copy paste links) + read them in plain text. Just thought I should report in on the forum. I wasn’t aware that it was well known. Hopefully it’s still helpful to ANet or other players.
