I can't log in to support
ok ok, wind back. What was your initial log in issue??
a: if you can’t login to the game cause you forgot your password. your game password is the same as your forum password. in most browsers you can go to settings to see the password you put on auto-remember here.
b: if you filed a support ticket, you will get an email. you can always reply to that email to update a ticket and you get a response there
c: if you are trying to file a new support ticket, then you don’t need to log in, you can skip that part
d: if all else fails, you can email support on support@guildwars2.com

My initial issue is one Gw1 account with an email I no longer use, my Gw2 account is with an email I use now. I wanted to merge the two on to my new email. But I couldn’t see how to do this. I tried to change the email in the old account, but had a password error, and I am wondering if the length difference between the old password and the new password length is the reason why.
Well then you should have a support ticket with a ticket number, so please be patient, you will recieve an answer on your mail. if you don’t have a ticket number you haven’t opened a ticket. please review my earlier post with alternative ways to open a ticket.

I think the fastest way for you to get this resolved is to have someone take a peek at the accounts and set you up with a workable password. So contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page. They will be able to assist you. For tips on what information to provide in a ticket — mostly intended for security reasons to establish that you own the account — please read this post and provide as many suggested details as possible to expedite the ticket.
