I just got an email saying this.
It’s a scam. Ignore it. I get about 1 a week.
ANet has said that this is a scam.
Of course it’s a scam!!! trust me !! ignore it
Yeah, it’s a phishing scam.
Painbow.6059: Ignore what anyone else who doesn’t agree with me has said because its wrong.
Definitely a scam.
“ArenaNet Entertainment”? Looks like this mail was sent by the same folks who spam mails about your WoW account being compromised (even if you haven’t got a WoW account) and they just changed Blizzard to ArenaNet.
The only reason I ask is because I had my password changed earlier today. It went to my junk mail. So I marked it as safe. Now I get this email NOT in my junk mail. Usually these scams would just go to my junk mail.
It freaked me out the first time I got one. But it’s just another phishing scam. It probably got into your main because of some dynamic filter that started letting through stuff that says ANet.
All these emails I’ve been getting claims they were sent in 2011. Before anyone’s account even existed. Before anyone knew what the release date was going to be.

Conspiracy!
I’m not 100% sure it works with GW2 emails (because I haven’t gotten a genuine one to test it with) but the way I normally work out if things like this are a scam is this:
- Read the email, see what the issue (supposedly) is.
- Then ignore any and all links and go to the website as you would normally. Via your favourites bar, typing the address in, whatever, the important thing is it’s independent of the email.
- Log into your account.
- Look for a message saying the same thing.
It definitely works with sites like Amazon, Ebay and both my banks. If they send you an email about an issue you’ll also get a message through the sites own message system or a pop-up or something to tell you when you log into your account. If you don’t then it’s fake and can be ignored.

A-net will never send you such a e-mail, they will just ban you.
A e-mail saying: Check out the new livingstory: Unseen, but not Unheard. will get a lot more hits, stupid scammers..

Problem is people would be highly suspicious if the page then asked them to enter all their account details. People expect that if they’re being asked to confirm they own the account so they’re more likely to do it (and likely to be slightly panicked by the threat of losing their account and not paying close attention to things like poor sentence structure or odd website addresses).

The best rule is to never click on a link in an email. Ever. Even if it looks legit.
Heck, I found an email from Verizon in my spam box yesterday. It looked -exactly- like a Verizon site email. Perfect formatting, fine text, all of it. It thanked me for my wireless payment of $1238.00, and had an account management link. Neither I nor my husband had sent any such payment that we knew of, and we were somewhat concerned as we do have a lot of automatic bill payments.
It also went to a ton of other speakeasy addresses and I’m not using my speakeasy account for anything any more. But I had to check headers, distribution, all sorts of things to be sure it was a scam.
It’s easier on the gaming ones because gaming scammers have terrible grammar, spelling, formatting … and I’ve never tried to sell an account in my life.
You seriously thought this email had the possibility of being Anet? Really….I mean it might be believable to someone who doesn’t speak English….really….

I quit how I want
Most MMO companies will ban you first and then have you contact them to straighten out any details if you are being investigated for account selling, sharing, or botting/gold selling.
It is kind of a pain in the butt scenario, but if they suspect nefarious intent regarding an account they don’t send a warning email.
If you ever have the need to confirm the details, contact customer service. They will happily, albeit not always quickly, help you clear up any account issues like this.
Edit; I never trust any link found in an email. If I need to get in touch with customer service via the web, I will go to the company site and locate the contact information there.

Right click and find the source of the sender, no doubt it’s from China……Delete/ignore.
I would suspect that an ArenaNet employee would get the name of the company right.
I have gotten just one of these since release and went directly in the trash the moment I read the first line.

It’s a scam, I still get these for WoW (which I haven’t plaid in years) and Diablo 3 (which I’ve never plaid, lol).

You should have realized it was a scam when it said “Greetings!”
I mean seriously, what e-mail starts off with that especially when it’s trying to claim you did something wrong?

I explained already why I wondered about it. It had nothing to do with the email itself and everything to do with my email filtering system.

The last one I got was from France with a relay in South Africa and associated with a domain registered with a registrar in Australia. -_-
