A lot of times an account is hacked and the hacker does something in violation of the User Agreement. Don’t worry, Support can sort that out for you.

Thank you for the response, Gaile. For clarification: are you saying that these are cases related to account compromise, and that the AoE auto-attack is not an exploit deserving of a ban, even if someone afk’s in a dynamic-event-prone area?

Nope, I would not say that. I’m making a statement about the general practices of account hackers. AFK gaming isn’t gaming, in my opinion, so I’d never do it and I would hope that people would not expect to get by with it. But that’s personal opinion — I’m not speaking beyond that.

Dear GaileGray, could you report our case to Anet. Anyway, we need a official reply although I felt hopeness with unban. The support just auto reply maybe they can’t make a decision about this, thank for lot.

My ticket and complain has not getting any reply from their representative till now just an automated reply that state my account has terminated forever, they even didn’t explain what 3rd party application that they accused me for. They already making profit, and now they run with my money and doesn’t care for my problems as their customer. I’m already tired of this kitten. Please check my ticket 120911-009271 and fix it immediately !

They obviously have some method set up to check for specific activity specs and ban based on those results (most likely fairly automated). It’s also pretty obvious that eveyrone that was banned and is complaining here (possibly with cause) DID perform AFK activities that ANet considers BOTTING. Whether or not a warning or some time limit ban is appropriate for a first offense is ANet’s call (and I can see this being a point of argument with valid customers).

It also appears they are reviewing the complaints and reinstating accounts. If I were ANet and saw your posts (phoenixdot), I would make SURE you were the last guy reinstated as you are rude and demanding beyond what is just normal customer frustration or necissary to get your point across. Being civil (at least at first) is more likely to get you help than being a totalkitten (and you get less spit in your food too!).

I DO agree that the perma-ban is a bit harsh, but I think that if they start with a time limit ban, it is going to take longer for them to possitively identify actual player accounts and thus stop the actual hacked / BOT accounts. Yes, this ends up with actual customers having to jump thru hoops to get the service they have paid for, but it also sends a pretty strong message as to what ANet feels is BOT-like behavior (and they are serious about getting rid of it in the game).

You don’t feel what i feel
I already post my problem here, and it’s 4 day’s already and there’s no reply by their support or representative. I spent money to play this game, and they accuse me for something i didn’t do and banned or terminated my account just like this was a free game. This game is not cheap, if they terminated people account like this it’s like they stole people money.

And as you can see (Brother Grimm.5176) before this, i write my thread and my post to asking them nicely why they accuse me with something that i didn’t do, but still no answer from their support or representative. This what make’s my patient grows thin. It’s like they avoiding my problems and doesn’t care at all.

Hang in there phoenixdot, hopefully they will fix the issue like they did for me. It was 5 days until my problem was solved. They seem to get to it, but slowly at the time. Also if they deny your appeal resubmit it! It took me two appeals before they reinstated my account.

How does this work exactly? Did you set up auto-attacking turrets that auto-healed and then idle and the enemies the turrets kill give you experience?

Exactly, it also gave you credit for any Dynamic Events that it contributed to. Also the auto-heal feature allowed the turret to stay after the time given. Meaning the turret is only supposed to remain for 10 minutes and then explode. However with the Auto-heal trait, it stays.

I agree that a guy who deliberately puts a turret or other AoE skill on auto-attack to farm an event hub is in the wrong and deserves a ban of some kind (I’m not sure it’s worthy of a perma-ban, though, because it is making use of game functionality and it begs the question of where you draw a line: do you punish a ranger who afk’s somewhere but gets DE credit or mob loot because the pet attacked something? Do you punish a guy who is playing actively but farming one or two DE-prone spots?).

I’m concerned for the guy who puts down a turret and plays actively throughout an event but who tabs out of the game afterward to answer an email, or make a quick run to the store, or feed a crying baby, etc. and doesn’t think to log out. Meanwhile, in his negligence, an event on a timer continues to cycle and his turret continues to give him credit for inactive play. Does this guy deserve a perma-ban?

That’s why I suggest changing the functionality for the auto-attack on skills like these. It covers both the intentional exploiter and the guy who wasn’t thinking, but doesn’t punish for an accident.

It takes what 45 seconds to log back in, it’s not like SWtoR day one where there were 3 hour ques to log into a server.

Meanwhile there are new players looking to join servers where all their friends are but can’t because the server is “Full” due to so many AFK’ers.

If I need to answer the door or the phone I’ll AFK but if I’m leaving the house or cooking I log out, simple and as for AFK with an auto power running at a DE spawn point, game function or not you should just know your asking for the ban stick.

They do. I think it’s around 30mins. I had to leave for a short while, and, came back just as it was telling me that I would be kicked if I didn’t resume active play.

engineer is the most fun class, after i spent the first week to trying out few other classes. i finish 2 of the beginning maps (lvl 1-15), it was fun and i spent a lot of time running around for the points and heart quests, i am still lvl 20+ lol (casual player).

on the ban day i ran around and did 3 of the different Kessex Hills dynamic events with the crowds. after, i stop my character at the Kessex Hill bridge to really for the event, while having my lunch in front of my computer. before the event start, i play around the flamethrower with my left hand pressing. The flame is cool and awesome. After killing few monsters when event started, i was immediately kick off and ban. i do not know that standing still while doing empty shots is a violation, it is not my intention to ruin the game, and i am not bot. please 2nd chance, i accept any punishments, but not the permanent ban. Lesson learn. please work with us.

My Circumstance, I was banned when going afk just to grab something to eat. I was not gone but 10 minutes and then i was banned. However after a long process I am now Unbanned. I had no idea at the time that turrets would not go away if the auto heal turret trait was active. I mainly afk so I can read my guild chat for the time I was away. Also in the first week there were auto-log issues. It is in the game, it was just buggy the first week.

I was unbanned this morning, thank you Anet support team. At least I got my weekend back. For those you guys havent been replied just wait patiently. We are on the same boat.

I was banned for a different reason it seems. This one tells me that i have tampered with the game and therefore banned. Dunno how that is possible. Only issue i have is at first I couldn’t login and had to change my password. I think i got hacked and whoever did something to cause that response. I really hope this gets resolved quickly. If you don’t want to log out completely, you can always use your Hall of Monuments stone. It will take you to the monument, you can go afk, and when you’re ready to return it brings you back to the same spot you left.

Really seem like they have a big problem, my son saved to buy this game , went afk yesterday came home couldnt log in. A friend said he had been online all day.
Tried and tried reset pass new email and absolute no response form anyone.
No number to call , no help at all.
Makes me sad he bought this, seeing how many of you have problems.

The vast majority of account compromises are due to keyloggers on players systems, compromised email accounts, or the player using the same login details on a fansite.

To get access back, you need to submit a ticket with the required information and then sit back and wait. Just remember, that if any items and characters have been deleted, they cannot be restored.

I recommend just stay away from AFKing. I was banned for 6 days before I could get back on due to the turret issue and then going AFK. It technically is not bannable, however they more than likely will ban you for botting since the game can not tell the difference between afk fighting. I just log out now and I hope others just do the same to avoid having to deal with this. However Arenanet did restore my account so I can’t complain too much.

you need to goto a game website such as gamespot of cvg or kotaku, many many people seem to have been hit by this unjust ban. Wouldent be too bad if they warned ppl that they considered ppl using an INGAME ABILITY as botting then at least you would know it was wrong. They have your money and they can and will do what they want it seems. I think Blizzards new MMO will get a lot more players when its launched as GW2 was supposed to be where the cool kids hang out, as it is most of the cool ppl will be banned by then and the game turned into goldspam wars or WvW will turn into zergwars

If you were afk while getting karma, you deserve the ban. Yes that includes the in game auto attack feature that was racking you karma while you slept, went out, attended to clients, took a dinner break, or whatever reason.

That’s fine if that is what you believe, the point was that using auto attack while AFK is not against their rules. They site botting and third party software but don’t take the time to investigate to see if it’s real botting or not. They punished people for not breaking any established rules, just people using auto attack! If they don’t want people to use auto attack while AFK, then make a specific rule against it or get rid of auto attack all together. It seems like they have left many opportunities in the game to ban people without warning which seems very suspicious to me…

On a side note, I hope they are blindly banning gold farmers like the are blindly banning people using auto attack!

Like the karma item bug earlier most people know it is wrong, but they still chance it for the potential rewards.

I highly doubt that someone who went AFK for 10 minutes for drinks/bathroom breaks/emergencies would get banned his way. It is the people who went AFK for extended peroids of time who are considered exploiting and thus are banned.

As for “it is not wrong because it is in the game”….so are bugs and spots where you can attack monsters but they cannot come to you due to pathing issues. Doing it once or twice would probably be tolerated, but intentionally exploiting it would be bannable in any MMORPG.

The only proof I see is that:

1. You’ve been a complete kitten to people trying to do their jobs and have had nothing to do with your ban, nor could they reverse it (because of #2)
2. You just admitted to “auto-attacking and going AFK.” No, this is not technically botting, but you earned gold and experience without actually playing the game. That’s like saying it’s okay if you exploited any other oversight in the game and got an unfair advantage. “Mispriced karma items? It’s part of the game, you can’t ban me for keeping them!”
3. The poor CS agents are overwhelmed by people with legitimate issues, compromised accounts, and kittens trying to rationalize why their exploit wasn’t an exploit, and was really just a method of abusing the system for gain without effort.

Word is, next patch they’ll be adding in a free common sense injector, although it appears you’re apparently allergic to it, sadly.
