1. You’ve been a complete kitten to people trying to do their jobs and have had nothing to do with your ban, nor could they reverse it (because of #2)
2. You just admitted to “auto-attacking and going AFK.” No, this is not technically botting, but you earned gold and experience without actually playing the game. That’s like saying it’s okay if you exploited any other oversight in the game and got an unfair advantage. “Mispriced karma items? It’s part of the game, you can’t ban me for keeping them!”
3. The poor CS agents are overwhelmed by people with legitimate issues, compromised accounts, and kittens trying to rationalize why their exploit wasn’t an exploit, and was really just a method of abusing the system for gain without effort.

Word is, next patch they’ll be adding in a free common sense injector, although it appears you’re sadly allergic to it, apparently.

Thank you for admitting this is not botting! That is exactly my point. If they see something they don’t like they need give warnings before they ban/suspend people and they should put it the botting section of the EULA. Yes, there were some people who were banned for afking for 10 minutes and I don’t care if they did it 10 hours, if going AFK with an auto attack enabled is a bannable/suspendable offense it needs to be in the rules! Don’t call it botting and accuse people of running “third party” software.

No, but they could just falsely accuse you of doing something and terminate your account if they wished. Which is practically the same thing.

This is similar to AFK leveling using pets and considered an exploit in almost all MMORPGs.

Auto-attack was intended to help players by not having to keep pressing the same key over and over in active play, it was not intended so people can leave their character at or near a spawn spot and come back hours later with rewards. Like the karma item bug earlier most people know it is wrong, but they still chance it for the potential rewards.

I highly doubt that someone who went AFK for 10 minutes for drinks/bathroom breaks/emergencies would get banned his way. It is the people who went AFK for extended peroids of time who are considered exploiting and thus are banned.

As for “it is not wrong because it is in the game”….so are bugs and spots where you can attack monsters but they cannot come to you due to pathing issues. Doing it once or twice would probably be tolerated, but intentionally exploiting it would be bannable in any MMORPG.

I was banned 10 minuted after AFKing, I have been unbanned now, I however blame the people randomly reporting near areas that are heavily botted or Afk players. That is just a guess. Although I agree that Afk play is borderline as exploiting, I think they should simply change the TOS and make it clear that they do not support the idea so it will settle these issues.

I received my ban for the same thing without actually knowing about it, I left a turret in an area and with the Healing Turret trait the turrets does not go away. I was banned about 10 minutes after this. It was only after being permanently banned did I look around and discover others with my situation. You make it sound like anyone in this situation is as fault when that is not the case. I suggest they just add AFK play as a rule to the TOS since this will not be an issue.

Accidentally leaving a turret behind is one thing, but setting caltrops to auto-attack and leaving makes it pretty hard for me to sympathize. I agree they should have given warnings and changed the TOE, but there is a TON a stuff happening right now, and warning people and keeping track of the warnings takes too much time. There are thousands of REAL botters, so warning each real bot and waiting a week and checking if they’re still botting would take ages and be a nightmare to keep track of the warnings. Additionally, changing the TOE isn’t as simple as changing a for sentences, they have to bring in a lawyer, and have it notarized as a legal contract, then everybody will have to agree to it again on the next login. We likely won’t see a TOE change for just this one issue.

One thing I wish people could understand, is that ANet is probably incredibly chaotic in the offices right now, with coders scrambling to fix game breaking bugs, sound techs searching every dialogue for the missing files, and CS reps dealing with thousands and thousands of people having troubles logging in, getting hacked, or botting. I realize it seems like a huge issue that (most of) you guys have been wrongfully banned, and it is, but their are a lot of things on the list to take care of. The best things you guys can do is follow the directions you were given and keep politely reminding the reps that you’ve been waiting for a while. It’s like keeping track of a school class of 11,000 people with 200 teachers. The best thing you can do is sit tight and wait for help.

I’m sure this isn’t significant, but look at the attitudes of the people already unbanned vs. the people still waiting. Of course this isn’t everybody on both sides, but as two examples, the player who was extremely apologetic and promised to never do it again (despite it just being the healing turret issue) was unbanned relatively quickly, while the player interrogating the CS rep and accusing them of not looking at his case was shrugged away and left with a temporary ban. Make them want to help you, otherwise they’ll go the easy route and just say “Sorry that’s policy,” they are unbanning you guys because you’ve proven you’re either resentful, unknowing, or have been otherwise straightforward in saying “Yes it was 10 minutes AFK, I’m sorry.” They don’t have to unban anybody, since your cases could be covered by the TOE anti-botting clause if they wanted it to, and could just leave you banned.

My understanding is that if you are near an event point (like the centaur bridge), and you go afk while running an auto attack, then you are violating the ToS. While it is not using an actual bot, it still falls under the botting umbrella because you are using an automated system to facilitate gain within the game, without actively playing the game. Saying “I was just afk.” doesn’t count.

I go afk all the time, (moms have to do that), but I always try to move myself to a neutral location, and make sure my attacks are off.

Not to mention it takes two seconds to hit ESC>Logout>Character Select, and relogging from there takes about 10 seconds of a loading screen.

While you may not have been botting in the traditional sense, having a program installed on your computer to automate certain functions, you have participated in bot-like behavior. Placing a character in a spot, setting it to automatically attack nearby enemies and then walking away from the computer for a few minutes/few hours is indeed bot-like behavior. You are still automating a process, which is forbidden in the Rules of Conduct that you agreed to. As such, ArenaNet is well within their rights to take action against you as they see fit.

Why do you think they care? You will never be unbanned. They do what they want.

AFK leveling is wrong at any game, it’s not rocket science.

My thoughts on this, to sum it up nicely absolute horse kitten, they weren’t AFK leveling, and even if that’s what they were doing ANet should have ammended that long ago or not even put in their game. For them to do this says alot about the game in general, you can have the greatest game ever and the worst support, and guess what no matter how awesome your game is, it’s gonna suck from a customers point of view. I’ll probably be infracted for saying this again, but I would reccomend a charge back on everything, your account is already perma banned, what’s the worst they can do? Ban you again? They took from you now you take from them. The end. I also truly enjoy that a bot contacted you with an automated message. Just speaks volumes about this kind of stuff and their utterly terrible CS department. A group of girl scouts with Hello Kitty keyboards could do better.

Some people still dont get it, “auto – attack” is an in game function. It is NOT macro it is NOT a 3rd party program.

I had a noob message me while I was afk saying I was a bot, I messaged them back saying caltrops on auto attack isnt a bot/macro. They apologized. The chat log will show that.

The fact that some people were using a macro to spam an attack isnt grounds to ban everyone afk with auto attack enabled.

Go get a thief put caltrops on auto attack, i can see how it would look like a macro spamming an attack.

I guess we can thank the noobs that dont know the difference.

Some people just don’t get it, it’s called unattended gameplay. You’re exploiting a game mechanic to play the game for you in an automated fashion while you were afk. That’s a nono in MMO’s and generally will get you perma-banned, such as is happening to you here.

Well, on my PC If I log out or close the application, it closes all other pages on my computer. So that is why I go afk instead logging off or exiting.

Like in real life, drastic security measures are affecting only the honest people while the criminals are getting ways around it. From 2 million accounts sold, how many were actually caught bot-ing or exploiting? If there are 200.000 of them it will just be 10% of the total amount. So, for the 10% of criminals, the rest of 90% of honest players are suffering for nothing.

Here get the same problem and was banned permanently, it’s a 4-day holiday now ! Ohhhnoooooooooo!! Please help.

Really y’all…..do you think its actually alright to set something to auto-attack and walk away from the computer for hours? When I’m done playing I log off. It is just such a common sense notion I find the confusion on this matter baffling. Its not rocket-science, its just basic consideration for your fellow players.

When you are afk NOT playing (and I don’t mean just taking a bio) ….other REAL players may be trying to log in to actually PLAY the game. It is incredibly inconsiderate to assume your rights trump theirs. Also, if you do afk bio (or whatever) you might wanna make sure you are not auto attacking.

I swear though, this thread sounds like the convicts in Shawhank “we’re ALL innocent here!”, when most likely, very few (or perhaps only one ) is actually innocent.

You guys need to stop wasting the CS time. Some of us actually need their help to get our accounts back from stupid hacking kittenes.. BTW 120929-000850 waiting for the senior CS dude to help me.

Unfortunately, the people that bot have absolutely no problem wasting CS’s time or anyone else’s. The fact that they bot at all means they have absolutely no moral or ethical qualms about the negative impact of what they are doing, and this quite probably extends beyond their gaming pastimes.

Some people simply do not care if they negatively affect others as long as they ‘get theirs’.

The funny thing is they bot, and they know they bot. That they are doing something wrong but they dont admit it and on top of that they come to forum and QQ about how they got banned for botting. We all know you were botting dude. Dont try and twist things. Admit it and move on. So CSR’s can focus on things like how I just read someone who got hacked and got back his account to find that his items had all been vendored -.- God help the hacker if he did that to me cause I will find that guy in china yank him out of his chair and… well the rest is R+18 so i wont continue 120929-000850(hacked account)

Well i got banned for using a steelseries mouses extra buttons in spvp i obviously wasn’t afk and wasn’t using any macro program to give me any advantage what so ever my skills were linked to separate buttons each and were all manually pressed not looped or any other bcrap yet they did not look into my account and just dismissed it (if they were smart enough to check keystrokes like most games this would of proved it) seems if enough people report you for whatever reason (losing etc..) they think your hacking since it was fine till i started spvp in tournaments (and big companies do make mistakes its not always the player that is in the wrong or hackers etc but i guess you need to grow up to realise that)

This has been a complaint various times throughout the forum. I would suggest to try send a Support-Ticket, the only appropriate way to solve your issue. I would suggest when you leave the room for a period of time you exit the game. This is my strategy to avoid any confusion.
