IP Address Authorization
Update. The game just asked for another authorization from an unrecognized computer, as did the Web site for this forum. I noted my IP address from my earlier attempt and it has not changed. Something is going on.
I have a similar problem. just brought the game (wish i hadnt now) for 2 days i have been trying to log in for the first time. I have replied to 3 emails asking for authentication but the log in screen says i havent.
Not impressed!!!!!
I wanted to add that I’m able to play the game each time I re-authorize the log-in. I was able to play on day one ever since the BWEs. My account seems to be in order. The game has simply stopped recognizing my IP address as the same one I attempted to log-in from many times in a row now.
Okay, okay, now I feel a little bit stupid. I neglected to check the “remember this network” box. Still, I hadn’t received a re-authorization request since last September, so maybe it does pop up regardless from time to time.
if your not on a static IP or your computer has anything major change this will happen from time to time, either way, at least your not like some fellow who posted months ago all mad that he had to auth with the website every login, but wouldnt check the box because he was just sure somebody else would get his ip and somehow know his login/user name and steal his account…..(dude needs to just get offline if hes that paranoid)

Heres my scenario: I use a Desktop PC to connect to internet and play online games (such as Steam service, GW2, etc) it is hard wired not wirelessly; though I do have a router that I can access other components with.
Our city is being hit with high winds and thunderstorms and I’m thinking due to our power interruptions my internet connects to a different server; which is why GW2 prompts me to remember a new location. I live in Pendleton Oregon so I’ve seen prompts such as Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington. Now if I were to mail a payment to pay for my service it gets mailed to Seattle Washington.
After contacting GW2 for support I was directed to contact my ISP (CenturyLink via QWest). I asked him about the situation and basically got the response such as “I’m sorry but I do not know, nor can I transfer you to someone who does know all the locations your internet connects to” I’m like WTH!?!!
Meanwhile he told me about Dyanmic IP and Static IPs; however I really didnt get that good of a response. Basically he said “People who own businesses or those that play online games really could benefit from having a static IP” but he didnt give much of a response as to what benefits do people who own Dynamic
He also told me theres an additional cost of having a Static IP. $25 One time fee for 1 IP and 5.95/month afterwards. 14.95/month for 8 Static IPs.
I’ve had DSL for nearly 12yrs and I wasnt informed about the differences and honestly I’ve never had to worry about it til now…playing Guild Wars 2.
Basically the technician didnt help me. All I pretty much told him is that “if I ever see Guild Wars 2 recognizing my location based out of Texas or Florida or Maine or South Dakota….basically any state that isnt located near Seattle Washington…I will call CenturyLink and ask what is going on”
P.S. I installed this game March 21st, 2013…so theres 1 authorization (I chose remember me)….since March 21st I’ve seen 3 other requests. I’ve saved the last 2 emails of my location prompts…Vancouver (I forgot to have memorized) and Portland which I did memorize. I spent 20minutes last night hoping if I unplug phone cable from wall and re connect or if I turn off my modem that it might recognize a new location in which I was hoping i could remember a bunch of locations to minimize future gaming issues…but that didnt work LOL. Soon as I hit submit i’m gonna see where I can locate my approved locations within my account
