I have a pc that is a bit old but still playable- or has been…

MOBO: Asus M3A78
CPU: Phenom 1 9850 2.5ghz
RAM: 8gigs of DDR2 800
GPU: HD 6870
800W powersupply
Windows 7

It runs the game fine (30-50 fps) until WvWvW… thats when it drops to 20 – 5 fps.

I love WvWvW and cant live with this fps currently. Could my CPU be causing the bottle neck? And if so, the best quad core I can put in this board is Phenom ii 955….

I can live with 30fps and even 25 at the lowest in large battles… If I can upgrade my current CPU to the 955 I would rather do that… If I need a new board and cpu then im going to just get a new PC. Can anyone offer some feed back on this? I would appreciate it!

Your gonna need a new system even with a 955 your still going to get bad frames in large WvW battles. I have a phenom 2 965 and i get around 15 in huge WvW battles.
Game runs like crap so if you have the cash get a new system.

Just to tell you the facts It’s not worth upgrading the CPU on that system for $100
If you brought it to me and said what do I need. For the rest this is good of course for about $100 more a K series processor and a Z77 MB would be more future proff if their are such a thing, but if you have a 64 bit windows 7 that you can reuse this would be a very good upgrade for $300

Good to know about the AMD 965… I am going to start getting the parts to upgrade.. Thanks for the advice and the links Zerk this helps me a lot. . Would the extra money for the Z77 Mobo and the i5 2500K be worth it? Ill be playing GW2 DayZ (when its stand alone) and maybe Planetside 2.

I’ve recently built a new PC, which I’ve out-lined in my sig.

Just played GW2 yesterday and was getting around 60fps roaming in WvW, which dropped to about 40fps in a huge battle. Open world PvE I get 60-100fps and dungeons around 50-80fps. So it’s a great system for this game. Maybe you could get the mobo & CPU.
