Just want to remind folks that it’s not only nVidia users getting this problem. In fact, the only report I’m not seeing is of XP users getting this crash… anyone seeing them commenting(or are they all gone?)

I’m not sure it was stated in this thread, but in other FPS threads people complained that in beta the game ran fine and now they’re getting really low fps. Thats because they turned everything up. Didnt you guys hear about the stress test? The point of it was turning all the graphics up on the game and makibg it pretty once everything else was taken care of. That’s why the game runs slower for some of you with mid level computers. Im not saying there isnt something wonky going on, but a majority of people with mid level computers are having performance issues now because of them turning stuff up.

I run a gtx 670 and in only certain places do I find that my performance isnt quite as high as it could be. In lions arch my frames drop way more than they should.
I try to play with vsync off but man o man i notice tears bad.

same video car and got the same problem. LA lags me out bad changing from ultra to low only makes a 5fps difference.
there’s also random as spots in gw2 that drops my fps insane. in human starting areas there’s a cave system(with bandits) nothing impressive in the visuals but i dip to 20fps lol. doesn’t make any sense.

My personal fix was a combination of the newest nVidia beta drivers and setting the frame limiter to 30 FPS. My guess is that simply using the frame limiter would have done it. It was certainly a heat issue for me.

Yeah this is a joke. I just built this pc from scratch all new parts and this is happening. But, on my backup crappy pc the game runs fine. I bought 3 copies of this game for friends and family and I’m seriously considering finding another gift.
Oh relax. I’m sure they’ll figure it out.

I hope this gets fixed soon, my comp. should make mincemeat of this game but I get bizarre frame dips. Turning shadows to high and using native in supersampling in options helped but I should be able to run the game with both of these options set highest.

I’m ok with 550ti… I mean, I used to have ridiculous low fps. Now I can get it playable.
No crash at all… Just when I use less cores than my processor have, it crashes after 5 minutes playing or less. Using all the cores still ok.
Try to update your driver in a “clean install” or try to get modified driver (for me it worked about low fps)… I do not really know what to say to help, theres so many variables lol But its a optimization problem of course, anyway we need to find a way to play, right?

I have an Nvidia GPU, two actually running SLI, and the game hasn’t crashed once for me. Aside from FPS instability, which can be resolved with future drivers and patches, I have no problem playing.

Lots of people sure do love to throw out blanket statements…
If some people with Nvidia cards are not having the same issue as you, stop making blanket statements like that.
I am running 2 GTX 465s and am having no crashes, the only time my frame rate drops is during heavy PvP combat and only drops from around 50fps down to the lower 40s during boss fights with a lot of players.
I suggest you start looking at your overall hardware config because it isnt just “Nvidia”.
Asus Sabertooth X79
Intel i7 3930K Six-Core 3.20 GHz 12MB Intel Smart Cache
12gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz quad channel
windows 7 64
2 GTX 465s
2 1tb Western Digital VelociRaptor 10,000RPM SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache
ASUS Xonar Essence ST 24-bit 192KHz PCI Sound Card
My nephew is running the game even better than mine with 2 GTX 680s , no beta drivers, only offical release. Odds are, its a conflict between video and sound drivers, or even the motherboard bios which tends to happen with new MMOs…it happened with SWTOR, WoW, DAoC and SWG. I recall SWG having a massive issue if you had an Nvidia 4800 and a Soundblaster live causing bluescreens if you had 2 drivers matching up, one was an old sound driver number.

^ I’ll try that version, I’m happy with the old 285.62 at the moment, back a few months ago in SWTOR one of the drivers I updated (I forget the version) kitten on me and I reverted back to 285.62 and didn’t even bother to look for updates since then.

Back when SWG first came out I was on an AMD Duron 900 (yes it was a very poopy CPU) with 512MB ram and a Nvidia 4400Ti (and also had an SBLive), Moenia and Coronet were the only laggy spots for me, everywhere else was good. When the Corellian corvette came out and I went in there for the first time, the walls and ceilings were missing (regardless of what version drivers I tried) so I couldn’t tell where the hell I was so I went and got an ATI X700Pro and all was good after that.

I tend to stick foot in mouth on forums so bare with me
Anyway I just purchased an Alienware R4
Not sure what info you guys need to see my specs but so far everything is running smoothly. My FPS is 70 and doing basic pve it will drop down to between 58-67.
I have yet to try WvW
I have dual graphics card
Name NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
I usually don’t play with my settings or over clock anything other than what comes from the factory.
I do get the warning from anet that says I may have known issue problems. I tried to update my drivers to the suggested driver but my computer says everything is fine and no update is needed. I also tried the legacy drivers but same result. no upgrade needed.
In game:
I set everything to high or ultra. vsync and sterotopic rendering is off

the 500 and below series seem to be running just fine. for instance, i have a 580 and it runs everything smoothly, wvw included. my friend has a 660 or whatever crazy number it is up to now and he gets incredibly bad performance.
it’s pretty strange and i hope this issue gets figured out.
I noticed that too, most people with the worse fps problems have the newer cards most often. I have 460, and haven’t had such serious problems as others, although WvW could use some optimization.

This issue isn’t Nvidia specific, Both the 7xxx series AMD cards and 6XX series Nvidia cards are having the same issue. It seems the game isn’t stable on the biggest and best video cards atm.

For reference, I have a new Pro-Star P170EM with an i7 and a 680M using the latest release drivers (at work so don’t have the exact details)
I’m easily over 30fps anywhere PvE so far, haven’t tried PvP or WvWvW yet so can’t speak to those. Everything is maxed except for shadows which are on Medium, 1920×1080. Whenever I quit the game, even after multi-hour sessions, card is around +55 deg C.
No crashes of the game whatsoever, just a weird ‘looking through the bottom of the world’ thing whenever the camera is anywhere near ground level.

Same thing here. I wouldn’t say LA lags me out really bad, but the framerate seems to be dipping lower than it should do (down to around 40fps in the worst places) and changing the settings makes close to no difference except to the GPU useage, which indicates there is something else bottlenecking the performance and it doesn’t seem to be the CPU, the memory or the harddrive. My bet would be it’s some sort of limitation in the engine.
I’ve actually just installed a new graphics card, so I’ve measured performance on 2 cards now with the rest of the system staying exactly the same (i5 2500k @ 3.3ghz / 8gb RAM / win7 64-bit) – before I was using a GTX 470 and now I have a GTX 680. The performance difference between the two cards is really noticeable everywhere else in the game (PvE that is, haven’t tried WvW yet), with the sole exception of those few places like LA square where the FPS just tanks no matter the settings or the power of the card. I’m rather hoping it’s something that will be improved in time.
As for game crashes, I was dreading that after the change of graphics cards I might join the club of people with crashing problems, but so far it seems the game runs flawlessly on both my cards. I’ll have to see if that luck holds, but so far both performance wise and stability-wise it looks promising.
Btw I’ve been using the 306.02 beta drivers on both cards, cleanly installed (by which I mean I cleaned out the old drivers in safemode and only installed the drivers + physx from the new drivers, nothing else).

If for many players the game runs smoothly, my idea is that your computer needs upgrading or your windows cleaned/re-installed.
I DO NOT state the game can’t be tweaked for even better performance, but it is OK as it is.

Is there a fix in sight? This is becoming a joke. Why should I log on when I know for certainty that my game will crash within 30 mins? And I am clearly not the only one. The forums are filled with players experiencing identical issues.
After posting Crash Reports, DxDiags, and the logs from anet Advisor thing….most people are told that they need to update drivers. It’s not an issue with our PCs when every other game works. It’s a GW2 issue.
No news has been released on the issue other than to say ‘we know’ and no fix appears to be coming any time soon.
I’m tempted to just give my game to someone else.
Deeply frustrated…
Edit: INB4 ‘my nvidia card runs fine!’
i payed £39,99 for this and all it does is crash my computer . guildwars 1 was way better anyways but that besides the point. i dont like the skill system in this game at all.
im gonna try download the new driver for video card if anyone care of is intrested i have nvidida geforce gt525m. but i dont see this making a real difference.
That 525 is not a great one for gaming. The numbering system now used by nVidia in the last 5 or so years is the second number determines how good the card really is for gaming. That 2 means run the game at medium and don’t even try it on high unless you want issues.

I bought a 630 gamecard yesterday as well. Tested it on all games before I bought it, read a couple of rewievs, most saying its a decent card. Should be more than good enough to handle GW2 (which, I btw can run on my superold GT9800 card with NO blackout/freezes, which is 8 years old now). What rigs should players use then? How large percentage of the playerbase would be excluded?

I have ZERO graphics related problems running a Gigabyte GTX 670 with the current beta drivers. Only issue I have is running an additional OC program while trying to run GW2. Disabling this I have no problems.
Those having issues, possibly have some things set incorrectly, not enough RAM, sloe processor, etc.
If its one thing I have learned with MMOs and technical related issues (lag, fps, etc) it is ALMOST NEVER the games fault for your issues. It is usually a user side problem. Before blaming a game for issues on your end, maybe you should check into every single detail about your PC setup. =)

I upgraded my graphic card just now, and I still have the same problems. I am happy for you, but seriously, I have tweaked every possible setting, tried every homeboiled fix, and just now I even removed ALL programs on my hd, reinstalled even win.7 and installed ONLY gw2. All in vain. If there is anything else I can possibly do, wich is within sanity, I beg you, enlighten me. And also the people at Nvidia, who are as puzzled as myself. I foresee a bright future for you in the hardware industry as you manage to find solutions not yet discovered by us, the mortals (yes, I am more than slightly annoyed)

Naughty I think too many people are having similar fps issues for it to be on our end. Either that or it’s the biggest coincedence in gaming.
I mean I can run all the modern games maxed out (anti-aliasing too) but Guild Wars 2 struggles in some parts, something is wrong. It’s not unplayable for me, it’s more of an annoyance why the fps are so sporadic

For sure it is. Most of us who get a good or ok fps are not saying its not suspicious or wrong. In fact, the game FOR SURE need a lot of changes. Its not that “heavy” and do not NEED all that power… But as a said in another topic, you need to play right? So lets find a way until it gets better and they make some improvements.
But I agree with you.
