I overclocked it to 3 GHz, which improved the fps somewhat, but still not great. I’m surprised a quad-core cpu running at 3GHz is performing this poorly in GW2 actually.
Anyway, here’s how you do it easily on AMI BIOS:
Enter your BIOS and change the CPU base clock from 266 to 333, keep the multiplier at 9, also disable “Spread Spectrum” in the BIOS in case it’s on (just reduces performance).
That’s it, enjoy your 3GHz rig.
Some people are apparently able to go as high as 3.6GHz by increasing various voltages and manipulating timings, but that’s pretty hard and maybe not the best idea. 3GHz is easily achievable though and poses no prob for any CPU stepping.
(Apparently 3.2GHz is pretty popular, people either do 400MHzx8 or 355MHzx9 for that.)

ahhh be carefully with such “simple” advices! U ignore the whole memory timing component, which may result in a un-bootbale PC and the need to reset it via the cmos jumper. Many older boards also have old FSB switches to run the ram multiplier differently from the FSB. I advice to google for a proper Q6600 overclocking guide if u are interested.

I also recommend overclocking the q6600 or any Core 2 processor but take the necessary precautions to do it right:

Yep. I would be extremely careful in advising others on over clocks, bios updates, and mother board updates. If you attempt any of these things, your best bet is to look up your hardware vendors web sites. Then read everything you can.
Highly recommend reading up on overclocking guide especially if you never done it before. Lookup the model of cpu/mobo you have and see what other people are able to do. Different CPU/Mobo overclock differently. (e.g there are many version of Q6600 and each have different overclocking potential.) I have G0 step and able to get 3.2ghz without voltage increases, but can’t reach 3.6-3.8 because my mobo can’t go that far.
As Andy said, increasing your base clock will also increase your mem. There’s also a lot more to it than just increasing your base clock.
Most people with Q6600’s will be on stock cooling, & overclocking on stock cooling is definitely not recommended especially if they’ve got one of the HOT B3 stepping Q6600’s.
