Inexplicable crashing
I’m having the same problem, the crashes today and last night have been more and more frequent. Running the game on a turbo-powered Mac Pro that can run Elders Scrolls V Skyrim on max settings without a hitch so I know it can’t be my computer. I’m going to keep trying, but every time the game crashes (which is about three times an hour) I have to shut my computer completely down which is really starting to grate on my nerves.
One of the recent patches caused an increase in out-of-memory crashes with people running the game on 32bit Windows.
Since the Mac version is essentially the 32bit Windows client, it’s likely suffering form the same issues.
i recently purchased the full retail copy of the game after playing the beta trial weekend, my experience of the trial was fun when the game wasnt crashing at random every time i logged on, my imacs system is fully updated and i thought it would be just a problem with the opening weekend but upon purchasing the full version im sad to say that nothing has changed and this problem is seriously game breaking
For me on Mac it crashes only when I quit when it logs off…
I have a 2011 iMac. The game originally never crashed when the mac version came out. Then it started crashing multiple times an hour. I ran some test on my machine and found that my motherboard was going bad. I had it replaced from official apple store. But the crashing continues I also play on my Mac Book Pro, but it is not strong enough and lags a lot, although it never crashes. This makes me think the iMac crash may yet again, be my machine. But seeing this thread makes me think maybe it’s not my machine.
I’m afraid to go on dungeon runs, especially Fractals (bc you can’t get back in if you crash) and even queuing for WvW is sketchy bc if it crashes I have to requeu all over again.
Critical Impact [Crit]
I’ve got a 2011 iMac and my GW2 client has been crashing a lot since the last patch. I just tried to do a dungeon and its worse than ever, with the client freezing every 5 minutes or so.
my problem is the same as kelaydas, mid 2011 imac with no reason or error report before during or after crash
Also experiencing random crashing on my mac. Just started in last few days. Any ETA on a fix?
Same here. I had been playing flawlessly for almost a month before the big christmas patch. Since then, I get random crashes to desktop, but never system freezes. This is extremely annoying and a game breaker (in both senses).
I’ve been getting random crashes more and more frequently. Yesterday, about 8 times, luckily it never happened in the instances I was doing.
My computer has been crashing frequently as well. It would only crash sometimes though, and would just simply shut out of the program saying it got an error. Now, after this last patch, at first I couldn’t get the program to run at all, but now that I resolved that, it crashes so much, and not only crashes but freezes and I can’t minimize out, and have to restart my entire computer. I can’t even get past the tutorial missions because it crashes so quickly. This is a big problem that needs to be fixed.
Mostly it just crashes to a error dialog. But, it’s frequent enough I can’t play WvW. Luckily, it hasn’t happened in an instance when I’m with a party . . . yet.
I can run around on PVE maps all I want. When I go into WvW the minute I run into 10+ people it crashes on me. I also have a late 2011 iMac with 8gigs of ram.
I can play any other mmo without a problem. I even play WOW on full rez while on GW2 I have all of the sliders on low. This and the fact that nobody from GW2 ever responds to anyone on these message boards lets me know they really just don’t care.

Exactly the same issue as Demonik. I’ve been searching all day for ways to solve this. Can’t tell you how frustrating it is to be in WvW and every time a zerg runs near me I crash and have to reload the whole game over and over and try to run back to where I was at to help my team. Makes me wanna throw my mac at the wall….. until i remember what I paid for it. Help us Anet, you’d have a lot of happy customers.
OK so here is my last post to this forum as I will not be playing GW2 on my Mac at this point. Previously posted that I was crashing from time to time, but since Monday, 12/24 I have been crashing multiple times per session. I’ve gotten no response from anyone regarding the issue and have better things to do with my time. WOW runs flawlessly so adios for now. Here are my machine specs if that helps others. I’ll chalk this up to a waste of time and money for now.
Mark, unfortunately it’s your computer and not the game. That computer you have was released when WoW was. GW2 was released THIS year and your system specs are god awful for attempting to run this game.
Mac OS®X 10.7.X or later
Intel® Core™ i5 or better
4 GB Ram or better
NVIDIA® GeForce® 320M, ATI Radeon™ HD 6630M, Intel HD 3000 or better
Basically the two most important items on the minimum system requirements list are total failures for you (processor and video card). Intel Core 2 Duo IS NOT Intel® Core™ i5 or better and the minimum graphics cards required weren’t even produced in 2007.
Same here, and I heard it’s not on Mac only. Crashes in large WvW battles —> seems to be sound related. It’s didn’t happen before the Christmas patch.
I am with Xillllix.3485, the game only crashes when I am logging off. It never has effected my game play or anything. However I don’t do PvP or WvW events so not sure if that has to do with anything.
TODAY however – when I logged out, my computer screen then “jumped” and my desktop loaded up again as if my computer had restarted without actually powering down first. That was the first time I ever experienced that with the game. I know, it could be my computer, may not even be the game, but it was when I was again, logging off.
Edit: Forgot stats sorry:

I don’t know if it was one of the recent patches or not as I just started playing a week ago, but I have ran both the mac and pc versions for many hours and I get random crashes at random times consistently. It happens more often the more I changed from zone to zone. It doesn’t crash WHEN I change zones, but just something I’ve noticed that may have an effect on it. It seems to be an out of memory crash.
This is not isolated to mac or windows as it happens just as often on both, maybe more so on the PC version. I actually prefer to play on the MAC client (even though some functions like zooming in and out with mouse scroll, etc. dont work) because the MAC version actually loads faster and runs better. Load times are much better.
Anyway, if I had any one bad thing to say about this game, it would be the random crashes. The only reason I installed the PC version was to see if it was more stable. It actually seems less stable.
bschultz turn off Mac Beta: Use scrolling gestures to change direction in Options Menu to make your mouse wheel zoom work again.
Also you’re not using one of apple’s AWEFUL mice are you?
I use a Mad Catz R.A.T. 7 Contagion mouse that has mac drivers and it works great.
i’m on a 32bit windows vista OS and it happens to me when changing zones (some reason the distance of the other zone i’m teleporting to seems to have an effect but without fail after transfering maps 3-4 times the game WILL crash) when the crash message shows up to send to Anet when i clicked more details it says ran out of memory
I’ve been having the same problem with GW2 when I log out after playing for a good long time like more then 3hrs the game freezes with the menu already fading out I left it alone the first time thinking meh w/e but woke up the next day and the game was still there frozen still tonight the samething happend i had to do hard reset by pressing the power button not something I enjoy doing
I play on a:
iMac
27-inch, Mid 2011
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
My game crashes for seemlingly random reasons, a lot. But most of it seems to be when i’m turning, or teleporting to another WayPoint. I usually don’t get an error code, but when i do I think its this one ‘c0000005’
27-inch, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB, OS X 10.8.2
I got two more crashes last night. I think that puts me at 21 total crashes sense December 26th 2012.

That’s my beast. Has anybody else has over 10-15 game crashes now? The last one, last night, actually made the os shut down and restart. So that’s when i went too bed. That’s the 3rd time its made the whole system restart too.
