Guild Wars 2

So two years after purchasing Guild Wars 2 I finally have a PC that will run it. Today I installed it and I’ve been enjoying myself. However when I moved my pc from my TV to my monitor and rebooted it. The game client kept crashing. I uninstalled the game thinking everything would be ok if i re-installed. HOWEVER, The game disk does it’s initial internet download before installing and then crashes. Here is the report.

If you go to MY ACCOUNT (top right of this page, below your display name) you can download the client directly and not need the installation disk at all.

Always use the digital client installation, never ever use the disk. Corruption and data loss can cause the install to fail. Second, run as admin to fix the memory read issue. Third, your monitor resolution is far too high. GW2 supports a maximum of 1600×1200 or whatever it is. If you’re running 19xx by yyyy, the client will repeatedly crash until you lower the resolution.

I appreciate the replies guys. Unfortunately, even if I do try to install digitally it crashes. I also lowered my resolution but it didn’t work either :/

Hey I have been having the same issues. But I can offer a temporary fix for you (well it worked for me). The only thing is it’s not idea, but hey it works so you can play till they fix it properly. I don’t have any other windows users on my PC so what I did was I just enable windows guest user. Try launching the game in the guest user or another windows user. This is the only thing that has worked for me so far

If it’s crashing with the memory error, the resolution will not affect it. The resolution change will fix your original issue. It will not have an impact on a memory read error. Again, to fix that error, you need to run the client as an administrator. Other solutions involve restarting your computer as well.

Thanks guys, However none of it worked :/ My help ticket with AN still hasn’t gotten a reply either. I’m seriously thinking of backing up all of my game saves and wiping my PC I would really like to play more but It’s getting almost too frustrating at this point. It’s just a shame.

This is not true. I’ve been running it at 1920 X 1080 since Dec. 2012 and have no crashes at all.

Could be a software conflict. Start by disabling all unneeded start-up programs; then reboot (scroll down for Windows 8 instructions):

It may be a good idea to increase your virtual memory, since you are getting close to maxing it out:

A final thanks to you all. I’ve tried all of your suggestions however was forced to simply factory reset my PC. The game is currently installing so hopefully no more hiccups!

This is not true. I’ve been running it at 1920 X 1080 since Dec. 2012 and have no crashes at all.

Then the game’s got an issue with custom graphic settings. My monitor (yes it’s really old) supports the 19xx by yyyy resolutions, but the card only allows 1600×1200 as the maximum by default.

Sounds like you’re using a laptop with an external monitor.

If you’re using both screens at once and they have different resolutions, you may run into problems with games. Try using only the external monitor at it’s native resolution.
