OK, so I have the boxed set and it has 2 installation discs inside.

I started the installation and it downloaded the launcher (+- 10MB)
Cool no prob with that.
I click on Install Guild Wars 2 and oops! computer is disconnected from the internet.

Reboot computer and DBL click on launcher.
Download starts for something like 227 000 files.
I’m assuming it’s a patch or something, but I’m 3,7 GB in and it’s still not getting anywhere! I’ve read the forums and I understand the % is for the number of files and not size, but everyone says it’s around 3,5 GB.

So my question/s is/are:
1. What caused the computer to drop internet connection. ( Tested this 3 times and each time it was the installer)

2. If I have to download the entire game why include 2 discs with just over 15 GB worth of data?

3. Can I do something to install the data from the disc first before downloading the patches?

I know I can log a ticket, but I’d rather make sure I’m not missing something simple first.

Thanks for any help! Can’t wait to play the game!!!

1. a cheap modem/router with bad firmware or a really small SPI/NAT table
2. the updater downloads the difference between the original release and the current version and then applies it as a patch.

What is happening in your case, is that since you started the game from the installed launcher instead of again from the disk, its pulling the files from the internet instead.

Is there a way I can direct it to pull it from the disc or should I rather try a different router to prevent the DC?

In case anyone is interested, I may have found a way to reduce the amount of files needed to download by manually adding the .js0 – .js4 files to the .dat file.

It’s worked in the sense that instead of 178000 files left to download I only have 75000.
The proof will be if the game works, so i’ll let you know when it’s done and working fine.

It Worked!

I found an article that describes how to join the .js files into one .dat files but it was for linux users.

So I downloaded a file joiner and tried the same theory. The amount of data I needed to download went down and the game runs perfectly!

i don’t suppose that dat joiner can optimise the internal placements
