Follow the instructions very carefully.
It is your USER library that has the guild wars 2 folder inside application support.
This folder is HIDDEN, to view it you need to open finder, click “Go” in the menu bar and then after clicking “Go” hold down the Option key on your keyboard. As long as you hold option down “Library” will appear inside the “Go” dropdown menu. Click that Library, then Applicaiton Support, then delete the guild wars 2 folder inside there.

The tgUpdate is a bug which Anet is working on fixing at the moment. You might like to read through this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Gem-Purchase-Redemption-Issues-Merged/page/4#post3384562 which discusses the bugs that are annoying Mac users at present.
okay, that seemed to get it working..thanks! Although, my mac is running extremely hot. I started the game up and set the graphics to sub-1080p and all the presets to low. I was averaging around 28-32fps in queensdale although my macbook pro was turned into a jet engine. Ive used this mac for around 2 months playing LoL extensively and havent had this issue before. Is the game just too much for my macbook pro retina 13inch (2013 haswell with 8gb ram)? The laptop was getting excessively hot.

The game is running inside cider and is running in 32 bit. Then on top of that the game is EXTREMELY CPU intensive, so unfortunately your fans are going to run loudly. Even on windows they run loudly, just not quiiitte as much.
LoL I imagine is a 64bit application, and is also a lot less CPU and GPU intensive (and better optimised I would think).
Please try updating the client as described in the thread:
Let me know if this worked for you:)
