Q:
Real quick question, I haven’t played Guild Wars Two in months, eight or so if memory recalls (Past logging in on April first to see the ‘Bobblehead’ effect which I saw on Reddit), in this time, I’ve switched from Windows to Linux on my main PC.
I understand you guys don’t support Linux in any which way (Although, with Valve pushing Linux so badly, maybe one day), but, I am considering playing GW2 via Wine. I understand, like I said above, you guys won’t be providing me any technical support for the game if I use it via Wine, but, I’d still like to try it. My only consideration is, as Wine is a full Windows-to-Linux wrapper (Remapping system functions to the Linux equivalents), there’s probably going to be quite a few things missing from running on a native Windows box. This scares me into thinking that Wine may trigger Guild Wars Two’s anti-cheat, and, ban me.
My simple question is, is Wine considered a cheat by Arena Net? Has anyone tried it? Anyone been banned?
That’s it. Thanks.

A:
No, running GW2 on WINE is fine (judging by posts I’ve read from others running the game on Linux).
The Mac version is running TransGaming’s forked version of WINE so likely no.
