About 3-4 weeks ago I suffered a sudden huge fps drop after a patch was released (went from 40-50 fps in open pve to 10-20). I thought it was the game’s fault but apparently I was the only one with the issue. So I reinstalled different versions of GPU drivers but nothing worked. As last resort I performed a scandisk and to my surprise it fixed the fps drop.
Same thing happened with today’s patch. Same fps drop, fixed again with a scandisk.
Is there an explanation for this? This HDD is only 2 years old, by the way. From Speccy everything looks fine.

Hard drive is fine, SMART shows no errors and only a little over a year of powered on Time.

The issue is probably GPU specific. Throw up screenshots of CPU-Z and GPU-Z, as well as Coretemp, while GW2 is running in a window.

Also include the ingame settings. Its possible a setting was changed on patch that is eating your FPS that you did not have enabled before.

Yeah, that’s also what I was afraid of.
Two months ago I upgraded the gpu from a radeon 5670 to a R7 260x, and I started having tons of issues (game crashes, pc non waking from sleep mode, even a bsod after launching photoshop once). I always thought it was driver related. Maybe the cpu is bottlenecking? But still that wouldn’t explain why the scandisk fixed the fps drop twice.
Anyway, here’s the test.

disable best texture filtering, as that is probably hurting your performance the most.

but as I see it your getting 51FPS with a Dual core first gen i3 and what looks like a R7 260? Your Cores on the CPU are at 74%, and that is what would be holding you back the most over all. game updates or otherwise. It looks really normal for your hardware setup.

Edit Also disable that frame limiter. It doesnt work correctly. You are far better off just using vSync against your 60Hz Monitor. That will give you more performance as well.

Bump.
Disregard everything I said about the scandisk thing. That wasn’t what solved my issue. It was simply a matter of rebooting my pc.
Today the fps issue happened again, I rebooted my pc and the issue was solved. So I started doing some tests, and after rebooting sometimes it worked fine, other times the fps issue returned.
I’m at a loss here. What could possibly be this caused by? A defective GPU?

It’s that card, they are known for being defective right out of the box. Sorry to say my friend but give it another few weeks and it will brick itself. I know from firsthand experience after losing money on 2 of them. I finally sucked up the lost money and bought an r9, problems solved. I hate to see people falling into the trap of this card because the vendors know it’s a crap card but they want to unload that stock so they sell it anyway. Just google it and you’ll see the hundreds of posts on various forums about it being defective. Sorry mate, and gl. My advice is to upgrade (really more of a side-grade because the R7 is a workhorse, if it would simply WORK) to an R9 soon as you can.

make sure you upgrade the stock fan and cooler on that nvidia, their stock equipment is usually subpar materials

NVidia ? Then make sure you are informed which driver version you can actually use
and which one gives you black screens or blue screen or whatever else ^^

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
