Now I’m hardly running the finest pc known to man- far from it, but my internet is fiarly decent, and I’m sure the game should be running…slightly better than this. On the absolute lowest settings I’m getting an FPS of around 12 at good points, down to 2-4 in WvWvW or big events.

My specs:

Dual-Core AMD Athlon II P340 Processor- 2.2GHz
3072MB RAM
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

In about 2 seconds the master of all knowledge will come around to tell you how your proc is slow and how your GPU is a kitten and that you are a kitten yourself if you expect your comp to run this game. Just you wait.

Why would when you just did it for them.

Seriously now, OP, that proc is really slow for the game and the game itself not really being on the optimized side means low FPS for you unfortunately. There are people around here with Mobility 6450 having low FPS.

Yeah, sorry man. The GPU is actually under the minimum requirements.

I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault for not knowing where their GPU falls in the grand scheme of things. It’s fine for the minimum to list some GPUs, but if you don’t know where yours falls, it can be hard for a casual consumer (ie, you didn’t build the machine) to really know how theirs compares.

Your assumptions were misplaced considering the fact that you are discussing a configuration that uses hardware below the minimum requirements as stated in the op.

Which is why i assumed you actually supported what you said in your assumption. goes to show that assuming about assumptions and assuming in general without question generaly a bad idea.

Okay thanks for the answers. I wasn’t sure since- as you rightly assumed I didn’t build this pc myself and any talk of pc hardware makes my head spin. Maybe I’ll look into getting a better machine.

Personally, I would get a desktop for gaming. Whenever new parts come out, you can just upgrade THAT PART (usually), whereas you can’t on a laptop.

I’m anti-laptops anyway. I’ve had three, all of which had issues.

On a more positive note, you can easily build a great gaming computer for ~$1,000.

You can do a budget build for about $500-600 that will get you a really solid machine. Just mentioning the option since I don’t know your budget.

I’m in college and didn’t have a huge budget – but $550 got me a machine that runs GW2 on highest settings (except reflections) at a steady 55-65fps.

I look forward to making computers a bigger hobby when I graduate (the experience of building was fun, would do again), but it’s good enough for me for now !

I didn’t want to overclock, since it is the first machine I’ve built myself – so I went for :

i5-3450 ($150)
B75 ASRock mini ATX motherboard ($50)
HD 6870 ($120)
8Gb DDR3 1600 RAM ($40)
1Tb HDD ($45)
Antec 520W Neo Eco PSU ($50)
HAF 912 case ($50)
O, and a $7 USB WIFI adapter with antenna.
- I do have a DVD drive now, but opted out at first and installed Win7 from a flash drive.

I won’t lie, to get the cost down so low, I got lucky in some areas and I shopped around a lot. Well, not as much as I could have – I started maybe 2-3 weeks before GW2 launched and built the desktop during Headstart.

Going to Micro Center in person knocked at least $50 off the CPU. I hit some minor sales on Newegg that added up (-$10/20 here and there). Got some stuff on Amazon – I saw some GTX 560s (not se) for $125 through Amazon Warehouse Deals while I was looking, too (they’re currently not doing well with GW2, but hopefully that will be resolved).

Sales come and go, so if you’re on a budget being patient and waiting is key.

And being able to re-use the Win7 license shaved off $80. With GW2 going to Mac OSX, there might be hope for Linux (and some already have run it with Wine).

To be able to overclock, you’ll spend a bit more on an unlocked CPU and a capable motherboard and aftermarket cooler.

Frankly Plea I don’t know my own budget yet- I’m going to go have a snoop around at the general prices of pcs these days and formulate one from that. I don’t think I’d ever go over £800 stirling though.

So that’s about $1,300 USD. That’s plenty enough for a good computer.

Dual-Core AMD Athlon II P340 Processor- 2.2GHz – As already stated, your CPU is underpowered for this game.
3072MB RAM – You may want to consider bumping up to 8Gb of ram. This is possible to do for under $50 USD.
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 – Your GPU is also underpowered for this game.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit – OS is good to go.

As for what Ceallach stated, I suspect you’ll spend closer to $750 to purchase a system that will run this game smoothly on moderate settings. You can usually find some decent, budget machines on http://www.tigerdirect.com/ and http://www.newegg.com/. You will definitely want to shop around. Don’t take the first deal that you come across. If you’re in a sizeable city, you may want to consider looking into a local independent computer shop as well.
As for building your own system, you can easily do it yourself. As long as you know how to handle the hardware and install your own software, and can find wholesale parts you should be able to build a decent system for a fitting price.

I’m pretty sure he’s from the UK, so I think that newegg/TD won’t work.

That puts you around £759.92, not sure if that includes shipping or not. If you were to go with an AMD CPU/Motherboard, you’d probably have £100-ish to reallocate.

I wouldn’t go by the first products you see, so have a friend or someone who knows decent prices to help you. I’m not in the UK, so it’s harder to determine prices there.

Edit: You’d probably have to change something, I forgot to add a case. -facepalm-

It’s really not hard unless you get a complicated case, which most cases aren’t. The hardware comes with instructions for how it goes together, and if something doesn’t fit somewhere, then that’s probably not where it goes. A quick search on youtube would probably yield a video on assembling a computer.

Just get all the parts, get into a local computer shop and let them do it for a few quid. If you don’t have the experience / don’t want to risk, it’s much better than spend hours researching stuff, especially if this is a one-off and you don’t want to keep building computers. It’s always a plus to have the knowledge, but hey, life is life.

WARNING: Don’t buy from the local computer shop. Especially the smaller businesses in UK tend to rip you off majorly, so be cautious. So far I found internet the best competitive source of my components.
