Hello. Considering the possible problems with Anet database that are making you force a password change (even though you claim that there was no problem, that it is anyone else’s fault), I demand information about how safe are our credit card info stored in your database.

Are the CC info stored in the same database as the passwords? Are those info safe or should I cancel my credit card for safety? is it possible that info about credit cards leaked or the problem only affects passwords?

If you’re worried why not just delete your card info from the game?

But I think if someone had stolen credit card info they would have said something.

If the purchase logs are accessed my past purchases will/can be there.

To be safer, you could get a separate credit card with limited balance for online use. Or a prepaid debit card to use only for online purchases.

If the account gets hacked, safed credit card info is bad. The bad guys could use it. That’s why they have chosen the ability to delete those info.

Anet has never been victim to data thieves. All data to be lost came from different sources. If you recycle the mail and more important the passwords with several sites, you are running avoidable risks.

I don’t worry about past gem purchases, because I can see them in my log, but I don’t see the details. So I cannot loose something that way and it cannot be used by strangers.

IF they did get their database hacked, legally they would have to make it public information so that players could secure their accounts and credit cards. The password change is probably just because they know which passwords are susceptible to being hacked and they have blacklisted them. They want your account to be secure and are helping you.

So, Anet, has the credit card info leaked or is this only a problem concerning the safety of passwords before september? I have purchased both the game and gems before september, want to know if my credit card is safe and if my credit card info is stored in the same database that the passwords are.

I didn’t start the game until Dec. 14th, today I logged in and found my character had green gear and no gold, my other accounts where gone. I do not have a keylogger, I do not buy gold from offsites. I did call Visa and they said this does fall under theft and fraud. They took the information I had. Maybe Visa will get more involved than Anet seems too want too.

It is specific to certain passwords, do read the announcements that they have made regarding the issue in the past.

Are you 100% sure you have not used your email and password (or something similar) that you are using now for GW2 for any other sites?

If you are going to get visa to go between you and anet they will probably refund you if you ask for a chargeback. There are consequences to this, do look things up.

Either way anet does not seem to want to fix the issue. Would not take them long too look where the stuff went from this account and deal with it. If I get more results with Visa then so be it.

Well you still have your account. The rest is about personal responsibility since it seems you haven’t taken the proper measures to prevent that from happening.

Whether you ask anet or visa for a refund, your account will be terminated and is non-restorable. So long I guess.

No, you don’t listen to answers.
Delete the credit card from the gem shop. That is what Anet offered. That is what YOU can do to keep it safe.
Anet has not yet been hacked. All the corrupted data stems from other websites being broken into and from players who have been recycling their mail and passwords on 100 sites and even their mail password is the same as the one on the other sites. Those players and their data are at risk because the thieves can even take over their mail accounts to authorise themselves and to request mail changes.
That is all written down in all the security information that you have not read yet and which was provided by Anet.

First, I was talking to wick.
Second, your accusations on Anets security are not based on any information available. If the credit card info is not saved, how should somebody get it. Those information of past transactions will be kept on systems that are not going into contact with the outside world again. Getting those information needs an inside job and believe me, anybody trying something like that will be found and send to prison. So you are in panic, but I don’t see why. It would be the same when you ask your credit card company to delete all information concerning your card, because they might loose it.

Hello,

The recent password change asked was a security measure, to ensure all Guild Wars 2 players may benefit from a safe playing environnement. While this was not neccessary for all the players, it benefits the whole community, as account security is a serious matter.

However, the credit card information is not related to this situation, since this information is totally encrypted, and as explained already, you have the possibility to remove your credit card from the gems store if you are more comfortable with it.

Thank you.
