Or is it just one of those CPU intensive games… just wondering b/c the game remains very cpu bound for me and apparently others, lowering none of the settings other than reflections has any impact on my fps.

I’ve been able to get playable fps after getting the unofficial ATI 12.9 drivers, which I recommend everyone checking out but that’s an aside, but can’t do things like lower my settings all the way down to get better fps in WvW. Nope, the fps I get at the highest possible settings is the fps I’m stuck with…

I have an i7 1.6 ghz laptop processor, which according to game debate is better than the recommended processor that they put out, and an Anet support agent agreed with me but disappeared after the account hacking thing.

I don’t know if I’m allowed to say, but if the direct source you’re getting it from is guru3d, then you’re in the right place. Its the “unofficial AMD catalyst” 12.9 driver, and the person who made it is apparently respected in the tech community so meh.

My rig, its 3 yrs old so I was not surprised it was having troubles, but was surprised it was UNPLAYABLE until I got those drivers:

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 1GB
Intel i7 1.6 GHz with turbo boost up to 2.6 GHz
4 GB RAM

Plz provide a link to the drivers.

I’m also going to try running under windows 8 to see if that makes any difference… (as soon as my backup completes)

That “unofficial driver” can’t be installed by everyone, apparently. My card is a HD 4850, and it’s not listed as supported, so I’m SOL.

Alright what’s your average fps at what setting an resolution

Its smoothly playable with triple-buffering and v-sync. 1366 × 768. FPS is really variable, While turning the fps is sometimes lower for me due to loading or something. I have 15/25 fps sometimes while turning and 25/45+ fps when the lag settles in crowded areas/vacant areas, respectively.

I have everything at max settings other than shadows/reflections/texture filter. The texture filter and shadows probably put a strain on my old gfx card. Changing no settings other than shadows/reflections/texture filter has more than 1 fps impact at most, including lowering the resolution.

I don’t have stuttering anymore after I got those drivers, along with an fps increase, so that’s what I mean by playable. WvW causes me to go to 4-16 fps.. I really wish I could lower my settings here.

Also do some work to find the drivers, I don’t want to get in trouble, remember the key words, “unofficial ATI catalyst 12.9” drivers, and the original source is guru3d.

You might want to read the forum posts the unofficial driver is listed on with win 8, since some ppl were having problems running it with win 8 64-bit, apparently its fixed by turning off Driver Signature Enforcement, but I’m not 100% sure.

I completely understand having the stuttering problem when turning around, trying taking off v-sync and triple-buffering to gain higher fps I know you don’t like tearing, I haven’t got any tearing. They will probably be fixing shader/shadows/post-processing and the frame limiter, but I get higher fps when I turn my settings down. I think the frame-limiter needs a fixing too. can’t really say much except this to help you out maybe, go to youtube.com>find a video> right click> hit the option "Settings"> make sure hardware acceleration is not checked closed your browser> open Guild wars 2> you may have a huge difference, worked for me report back and tell me the results.

MMOs are always demanding on the CPU.
Your 1.6ghz i7 is terrible by the way. First, it’s a laptop CPU. Second, it’s only 1.7 ghz.

MMOs ALWAYS use the graphics card to some extent tho, when i can go into WvW and have 0% activity on the graphics card, something is wrong

That’s because your CPU is bottlenecking.

Hey all,

I posted about this a few minutes ago without reading this post. My fix is to run the game in full screen (windowed mode). If I have V-Sync off, I get 80-90 FPS and above above 90% gpu utilization. If I turn on adaptive V-synch (which I prefer) I get a stable 60 FPS with NO STUTTERING and utilization around 55%. Try it out

It was better than the recommended specs, so you have terrible judgement. And there was a person here with a duel core i7 who was getting better frames than me.

EDIT: Also none of y’all’s suggestions worked for me sadly

Sadly it is probably your CPU speed. Just because it is an i7, apparently it still needs have high clock cycles. I only have as i3 but it is 3.30 Ghz and it game runs pretty good outside of huge pvp battles around large buildings then the FPS drops into the teens or worse in extreme cases once in a while.
PvE almost is never a issue and usually between 40 and 60+.
using a MSI Cyclone 460 graphics card.
