Issue with newsletter e-mail
From ArenaNet’s point of view, they shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between an actual email and an alias. That’s kind of the point of an alias.
I’m guessing the problem is with the +, which isn’t a standard character. When a + is decoded for the web, it’ll get converted to a space. I’m guessing that’s what’s happening, or their sender is simply rejecting it because it’s not an expected character.

After testing GMail specifically, I was able to send a newsletter confirmation to myself using an alias. It was however sent to the spam folder.

Have they? Because when I used the non-aliased e-mail I indeed got a confirmation e-mail.
I guess I’m stuck at this. I’ve just subscribed with the non-aliased e-mail, though I used the alias to register my account back in 2012. It’s likely I’ll miss a chance at participating in future HoT closed betas nonetheless.

They did say that, but it’s not true. You will receive a confirmation email if you’ve never been registered. If you fail to accept it, you will not receive any newsletters. I’ve already tested and confirmed this. Perhaps they actually meant that you didn’t need to confirm it to get yourself added to the beta sign up, though the page states otherwise.
You can easily test if you’re signed up and confirmed by simply signing up again. If you’re not signed up, it’ll state you’ve been sent a confirmation email. If you are however, it’ll just thank you.
