Spec:
CPU: Intel i7 – 4790K @ 4.5Ghz
GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 Drivers 355.60
Mobo: Asus Z87-A
Ram: (2×8) 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit
Software for GPU is OC Guru from Gigabyte

At random location (Bloomhunger, Fire Shaman, Lions Arch) my FPS starts to drop/shrink to half (For a short amount of time, usually about 5-10 seconds) and then climbs back up. I am looking to see if there is a possible fix for this, never had this issue with my Windows 8.1. Game is running in Compatible mode for W8.

Thnx in Advance!

In the same boat mate.

Got i5 4790k (3.5 not OC)
GTX 980 ti palit super jet stream 6gb
Z97gigabyte mobo
Kingston hyper v 8gb 1866mhz
Windows 10 home 64bit

Not sure what your FPS stats are as mine sometimes are 80 and other times 15-20.

Had a variety of reasons put my way such as:
Win 10 drivers and nvidia having problems
General driver issues (some suggest using older versions)
Gw2 only supporting dual processors
Cpu/gpu not being used efficiently. ( I sometimes have 0% gpu and 30% cpu usage)
Pcie running at 1.1 rather than 1.3

My opinion is that it’s just not optimised that well and hopefully direct x 12 will fix the problem.

I’m going to play around with gpu/cpu over clocking to see if I can find any differences.

I’ve been playing the Witcher 3 max setting at average of 60+ FPS and TERA, LOL etc on 100fps, so I’m not sure what to think really.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful You’re not along though.

This has been an issue since the game has launched. My specs well exceed the minimum and average hardware for this game, but even with such high specs the game can drop to unacceptable frames per second. My specs are as follows:

-i7 4790k @ 4.4 GHz
-Nvidia GeForce 780ti x 2 SLI
-Z97 MSI Krait Edition Motherboard
-16 GB 1866 Mhz Corsair Vengeance
-Windows 10 Home 64 Bit

In most open world areas, my FPS varies from 60 fps to 100+ while running 3840 × 2160 and nearly max settings. (LOD Distance and Shadows are set to High instead of Ultra. I get weird FPS drops at Ultra for LOD, and Shadows at Ultra cause a really strange stutter whenever I turn my camera. This has also been an issue since launch.)

At this point I’m more than convinced that it has nothing to do with my hardware when I drop to 30 or less FPS. Areas like Bloomhunger, The Maw, Lion’s Arch, and other locations just have bad optimization. Another setting to note is the “Player Model Limit”. Anything above Medium causes ridiculous FPS drops in giant zergs. I don’t understand how or why the optimization can be so horrendous for player models, where so many other MMO’s get it right.

Honestly, I love this game, but if Heart of Thorns doesn’t bring any improvements, I’m going to be very disappointed. This game is in desperate need for an update. Whether that’s hyper-thread optimization or Dx12 or whatever, it needs to happen. 30 fps or less in zergs, one of GW2’s biggest features is big group gameplay, seems like a major oversight by the programmers and engineers.

Honestly, don’t expect it to make a huge difference. You won’t see much of an improvement at all in areas that already drop to 15-20 fps because of poor optimization. The engine is old, and newer hardware and overclocking isn’t going to fix the issues raised.

its nothign todo with the engine its todo with there new patch’s it done something to the game , its prob that ambient bollox that no1 cares about. considering we all had higher frames before the past 3patch’s and now everyonei spoke to has frame drop issue. Bad code somewhere probably (this isnt flame at anet) its just observation.

did you guys upgrade to windows 10? That’s what seem to be my problem.

my problem is on windows 10 with gtx 750 ti. My framerate occasionally goes to 20 fps when I logon. (it’s usually 80 fps). And the problem is fixed if I relog. I think another person with the exact same card report the same problem as mine.

I just give up and stop trying and use my old computer with my old OS. I’m not technical enough to fix the problem. And it’s likely the problem can only solved by Nvidia for my specific card and OS.

The short-term framerate drops seem to be a windows 10 thing. Never happened before I upgraded. I’m using an amd 7850.
My guess: Background windows process thrashing the hdd, or something maxing all cpu threads out. I use an ssd and still notice it.

Have any of you checked for chipset driver updates for Windows 10 by chance? I know some intel chipset drivers for 8 and earlier may cause issues in 10.

The other thing, is if possible could you post a screenshot of GPUZ and CPUZ open while Guild Wars 2 is running open in windowed mode preferred. This will let us know if there is a sync error.

I’m using a sandy bridge motherboard on both pcs. Our latest chipset drivers (chipset inf) are for Windows 7 and they also don’t NEED to be installed – have never noticed any diff with or without them.

I don’t install IRST. It is not needed. I also don’t really think that’s the issue.

Besides, Intel’s update utility doesn’t say there are any updates.

EDIT:
pulled this from intel’s site. just as I thought:

About this file/download:
The IntelĀ® Chipset Device Software installs the Windows* INF files. An INF is a text file that provides the operating system with information about a piece of hardware on the system. In the case of the current Intel Chipset Device Software, that information is primarily the product name for the piece of hardware. This allows the operating system to show the correct name for that piece of hardware in Device Manager.
