Issues with Third Party GPU Tools
Are you launching GW2 as Administrator WITHOUT SweetFX installed? I had this problem too but I fixed it by removing SweetFX and running the game normally. Afterburner OSD does not work properly with SweetFX so it had to go /:
Sea of Sorrows
Not using SweetFX at all. So that is more than likely not the issue.
Try using none or low in application detection, and hardware access via kernel. Been using MSI AB since the betas and haven’t seen a single crash.
Tried with it set to kerel mode and still crashes at start up. The Afterburner version I am using is 2.2.5 Beta 1
Are you using the On-Screen Display at all? If you are, I added GW2.exe, and the settings are :
Detection Level : High
Stealth Mode : On
OSD Support : Om
Raster 3D
Viewport
Sea of Sorrows
Adding it to the OSD caused it to crash again when initially loading the character select screen.
I even went as far as reinstalling GW2 and Afterburner last night the crash still happens. My card is still on stock settings, I’d much prefer to OC with Afterburner instead of CCC.
It’s probably a Windows setting somewhere, as some people get this and a lot of others don’t. Which, idk. I’d start with disabling UAC.
That’s usually the first thing I do with a fresh 7 install.
AB settings I use are level: low, stealth: off and rendering mode: vector 3d on the global, no application-specific profiles. Hardware access: kernel as well. All different from Samfisher and no problem.
What else do you have running in the background?
Edit: post the error that gw2 gives if there is any.

Hmmm… I think I may have found a cause…
I run a triple monitor set up, I unplugged both of my screens connected via display port and the game launched without issue with MSI Afterburner open.
As far as background apps, CoreTemp, DisplayFusion, MSSE, FileZilla and Mezzmo servers, and my sound card software.
Interesting. I’ve got a 3x Surround setup, but all connected via DVI (afaik it’s impossible on AMD since they all have to be plugged into the same card). What happens if you adjust the OSD coordinates to somewhere in the middle of the middle monitor, something like 3000 / 500
Still occurs no matter where the OSD is being displayed.
I have them all connected to my single 7970. One DVI and two MiniDP to DVI active adapters. Temps in game are fine too, stock clock/voltages I hover between low 60s and peak at 74 (usually sit around 66) with everything on max.
It was good when you ran it on a single monitor via DVI, so it’s gotta be something to do with Eyefinity/Afterburner. Does it work with a single monitor connected to DP?
Hmm it crashes at start up with just a single monitor connected via display port.
I have been looking to upgrade to a 2560×1600 display, maybe I could use this a a reason to convince myself to buy a catleap… haha.
Why stick with just one
No idea how the video signal would have an impact on the software from a technical standpoint, but at least we figured it out. If you know someone with a monitor that has a DP port, see if you can borrow it for an evening. Rule out the adapters. Otherwise there might be something in Catalyst’s per-application profiles but I haven’t used AMD since the 5850’s.
Guess I’ll try uninstalling all of the AMD software and installing just the base driver, If that works I’ll be golden since I’ll just used afterburner to OC.
Update: Ran atiman uninstaller to remove all drivers and whatnot. Reinstalled the 12.11 drivers only, the game launches fine with afterburner running.
So it’s clearly an issue with CCC or some profile within.
Edit: Hmm, so it crashed again on the next start up.

Yes, after I posted above, I began getting the crashes too. After that no matter what I tried the OSD just wouldn’t work without crashing the game. Gave up and went back to Fraps /:
Sea of Sorrows
Were your crashes when the character select screen was loading or at another time?
It crashes before the character login screen even appears /:
Sea of Sorrows
Same here, just a white screen with the error dialogue…
