But is the low FPS issue ever going to get fixed? Usually I’m not really one for complaining. When Guild Wars 2 first came out and it didn’t run very well on my system I thought “fair enough, it’s a new game, it might take a while to get it up and running”. It’s not like games haven’t come out before with optimization issues. But it’s nearing February now and the last I heard was there was an update on reddit saying they were working on the issue. I’ve not played the game since then due to the performance issues up until the other day so I’ve not been keeping up with all the latest developments. Has there been any news since then? I had a look around but wasn’t able to find any myself.
My current specs are…
Asus Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard
Intel 3930K 3.20 GHz
16GB GSkill Ripjaw Z
Asus GTX 690
256GB Vertex 4 SSD which is what I have the client installed on.
The game is virtually unplayable it stutters so much. The only way I have been able to get it to run is to turn almost all the graphics settings down. I have been through all the troubleshooting options and I can raise the FPS a bit by lowering reflections and shadows but the game still dips up and down like crazy.
I don’t know anything about game development so I have no idea how long these things take. All I really want to know is when I will be able to play Guild Wars 2?
Cheers

In Your case dear friend it’s not a problem with game itself but Your System.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like Im blaming You for.
You didn’t even posted Amount fo FPS You get but nvm with that.
With this rig You should get constant 60 fps apart from Massive WvW ( to keep it over 30 fps You’d need to OC your 3930k and im Sure SOlarNova will tell You same thing)
But lets get to the case.
First of all check your SDD drive for any bad/corrupt/error sectors.
Reinstall drivers – those for intel CPU also and graphic card.
Try If you have possibility to check game fps with single graphic card ( even low one like gtx 260 ) to see if the problem is within Your gtx 690 ( dual GPU SLi ) because this game have problems with SLI.
Try overclocking Your CPu to see does it rise FPS.
Try checking any problems/errors with DDR3 it’s common issue that it may cause problems.
Check Does Your GTX 690 works in x16 PCI-E slot and is it working with proper clocks while playing GW2.
Use repair function on GW2
Guild Wars 2 Repair Instructions for Windows®
If you are having problems running Guild Wars 2, the data archive may have become corrupted. Please follow these steps to verify and repair the archive:
Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add -repair to the end.
Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair
Click OK.
Double-clicking Guild Wars 2 Repair will begin the repair process. The game will launch when it is complete.
Note: Keep in mind that the verification and repair process will run each time you double-click the Guild Wars 2 Repair shortcut. If you would like to play the game immediately without repairing the archive, double-click on Gw2.exe or another shortcut without the -repair command.
If noone of these help Try reinstalling game first and if that gives no result reinstall system with clean drivers install.
But with the shuttering I would clearly recommend mostly checking all stuff for your GPU – graphic card.

Cheers for the reply.
Sadly I have tried the majority of the things you mentioned including a single GPU. I tried a 680 so maybe it’s an issue with 6 series cards. I don’t know. The one thing I had not tried was checking my SSD however I have more than one SSD inside my system as well as a 3TB HDD and I get the same issue when it’s installed to all 3. Just incase though I checked it out and can’t seem to find any errors.
My friend has the exact same issue I do only his system is an i7 2600k, 16gb corsair vengeance RAM, and a GTX 670 so he had thought as well that it may be an issue with 6 series cards?
I mean I can lock The Witcher 2 at 60fps with everything turned up except ubersampling and even if I switch that on I still get a really solid frame rate. I have heard a lot of people say the game is very CPU bound but even then my i7 isn’t exactly outdated.
I did know there was some optimization to be done but it’s been a few months now since the games release. I’d be greatful if there was even just an update on what was happening.

What drivers You use ? Try going back to 306 smth the stable version.
It’s not problem with 600 series cards cause many ppl who are using them never complained on it apart from CPU bottleneck which may cause a GPU not working properly due to not getting instructions from CPU which in this case may cause shattering etc.
The CPU You have is one trough the roof. Only better would be X version 3960X.
But still a CPU can not work properly for many resons – be damaged somehow or smth like that which makes it not work properly with Gw2 as it’s CPU bound.
Witcher 2 as many other games ( not MMos ) and apart from BF3/ and First person shooters work differently. cause those games are GPU bound and use CPU to some point.
Thats why in these games Youll see low CPU usage and high GPU usage while in GW2 CPU will be capped at 100% while GPU at it’s low state.
Problem may be that Your CPU somehow cannot handle due to manufacture reasons ( some errors/problems ) etc handle game while it’s under so heavy fire.
Check CPu with CPU-z while playing guild wars 2, does it work on proper clocks, try doing stress tests with AIDa64 and other tools for that.
It could also be A DDr3 problem. some ppl suffer such things due to bad memory cubes, try to switching placec of DDR3 ( If you have 16 GB in 4×4 or 2×8 dependable ) try removeing 8 gb ( in case of 4×4 ) and try runnin dual channel. in case of 2×8 try removing 1 cube does that help.
Also I cannot remember did 3930K had an integrated graphic card HD4000 ?
If yes, try to run GUild wars 2 on that Integrated graphics to see how it goes.
What is Your FPS btw ?
When those shutters occur ? while running around? in battle ? in towns ?
We definately need more information about it

The 3930k does not have a Intergrated GPU.
One thing i can sugest u try OP is running the game with settings on Max EXCEPT reflections. Turn that to terrain and Sky and see what happens.
Run EVGA PrecisionX and turn on the OSD.
Have it display FPS and GPU usuage.
Then do the same for the CPU. I personaly use AIDA 64. and have it show the CPU frequency ..it should go up to 3.8ghz.
The 3930k has so many cores and threads its a PITA to tell whether its bottlenecking on GW2.. ur looking at a number around 25% total usuage.
If ur still running at Stock speeds it could easily be a CPU bottleneck as the 3930k is no better at playing GW2 than a 2500K. Due to the way GW2 uses its threads.
I personaly have my one OC’d as u can see in my sig and dont have any problems running GW2 on ‘near’ max settings. My GPU is what is holding me back as it frequently hit 99% usuage. But thats fine.
You said u tried a 680 and it didnt help. So this leads me to suspect a software issue. But do check ur BIOS, make sure that the settings r allowing the CPU to clockup to its stock turbo of 3.8ghz. becouse if its only running at a constant 3.2ghz then thats likely to be the problem.
Some Nvidia drivers are crap, It’s not always the best to use the latest ones either.
Try 306.97 drivers.
And remember do a clean install.
