Adding my name to the list, also with BT, will contact them next week, seems I won’t have much luck looking at the rest of the comments, completely unplayable between 5pm – midnight

I know it seems a lot of people are having various lag problems and such like with GW2 but just want to say the problem this topic was created for is specific.
If you think the game is unplayable due to traffic management by your ISP then please run a glasnost test to check for certain whether your account is traffic management assigned. http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php (choose the bit torrent option)
If the test confirms you are being traffic managed then check with your ISP policy to see what times of day the traffic management is enforced.
BT customers on infinity option 2 who took contracts before feb 2013 will be traffic managed and will almost certainly be experiencing this issue between 16:00 PM and 00:00 am (i think) and pretty much all weekend afternoon and evening.
Read this if you are on BT and unsure if you are traffic managed on your contract
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/47278/~/traffic-managementIm sure all the other ISP`s will have something similar.
Based on this then I shouldn’t be being throttled due to being on Unlimited Infinity 2.
Does explain the excessive lag though. There has to be some issues somewhere down the line.
Specifically ask to get the traffic management removed from your account, don’t get diverted or bullkittented or transfered, keep at them, ask for supervisors if necessary, don’t entertain any crap about it being your computer, or your hardware or your local exchange or having a ‘technician’ sent out to your location at your own expense etc.
2nd evening since Traffic management was removed, playing fine on BT infinity during peaktime, looks solid that it was the solution.

I am on a BTW (BT Wholesale) business package which is completely unlimited. There is no peak time restrictions, no P2P restrictions etc. However, I am having sever lag in GW2 the past week!
I know for a fact it’s not my ISP, because my ISP is the company I work for who hosts their own data network from servers based in Telehouse London. Our network links directly via a gigabit pipe to BTW hostlinks. I have 3 hops on my tracert to Google DNS (my previous ISP had 19 hops!). I am able to view the data on our network and we’re running at less than 5% capacity right now, yet I’m lagging like mad! Since my connection is basically uncontended, this shows that the issue is “off-net” for me.
Furthermore, since other players who are on BT or BT-backed connections, are also having this issue, it is logical to conclude that one of the links our connection routes through on the BT network to reach a-net, is at fault. This is the responsiblity of the host (a-net) to contact that provider and raise a fault.
The thing with BT, is you cannot let them dictate their usual “check back in 48hours for an update” crap, you need to badger them hourly to get results. Demmand to speak to Managers, Supervisors etc as the general staff cannot do anything.

If you get any luck please let me know Skyhigh.
Just a bump from another soul effected to hopefully show ANet this is a real problem…I’ve been playing since GW1 released I know they get problems fixed…But this is ridiculous now it’s been going on for far to long now.
well not had a chance to find out why I lagged out last night but tonight I’ve had no problems at all even in LA. I’ve not changed anything at all so i’m non the wiser.

Firstly, thank you very much for doing so much legwork with the problem, everyone. It means that after 30 mins of reading (last night) that I should hopefully have this fixed in the next few hours (24 hours, tops).
I’ve called BT. Found that my contract was one of the early Infinity 2 contracts and that (whatever appears to be) P2P traffic is managed. 4pm to 11pm on the weekdays and {gulps} a whopping 9am until midnight on the weekend! Argh!
So… definitely check how old your contract is. I upgraded to the Infinity 2 but the contract, itself, wasn’t new enough. They’re sending me a new Home Hub 5 (I’m on 2) through the post. £6 P&P. Also, the contract is now a few pound cheaper per month and I’ve removed the “extras” from the landline too. So… good news all ’round!
Hope everyone else gets their problems sorted.
Mike.
ps. call them. Don’t use Live Chat. Useless and sluggish compared.
Update: I’ve popped into Lion’s Arch (Under Attack) and had three lag-free runs which is great. Haven’t been able to do that for days. Looks like my new contract has kicked in already and no more lag or latency (or at least no more than normal when 150 people turn up to help you in battle!) :-)

I bought Guild Wars 2 last week. At first I did not notice any lag at all, I was busy trying to optimize graphics so I could play with better fps. When I sorted that out, I delved into the game. But since yesterday (Sunday) I can barely enjoy it. GW2 lags so much! I checked my latency and it’s 250ms on average and yes I get randomly disconnected… I have been playing in Piken Square server (population Heavy, not even Very Heavy…) and I’m from London. So yeah… Ping is worse than what I get playing LOTRO in some servers located in U.S. (it’s around 110ms there). My ISP is BT as well, tho I don’t know what kind of contract and which plan I have (I’m buying internet from my landlord). I’m screwed basically unless ArenaNet will sort it out for me. So please help!
Also it’s Monday and midday here and I am lagging bad. Why?
Edit: just did speedtest to one of the servers in Frankfurt and result was: ping 20ms, download speed 36Mb/s, upload speed 9Mb/s. So why am I lagging in Piken Square server which is supposedly located in Frankfurt as well?

I would definitely recommend asking your Landlord how old the contract is. Updating it will probably save you money. It did with me. If you’re thinking of staying there for another year, then you have nothing to lose (and possibly everything to gain). :-)
Hello, Im from Amsterdam and i have KPN internet. I didint have any toubles with playing guild wars 2 before but now its unplayable… Even in the middle of the night or early in the morning i have huge lag. Í checked my router and i didint find any other connections to my network so no one else are using my network traffic. The strangest thing is that chat doesnt lag at all… only game play…
Edit: Using resmon i got gw2 server ip adress and i tried pinging it and thats what i got… 1000ms

Seems like throttle behaviour is back tonight 20:15 GMT. Can stream video just fine on 2 machines but GW2 traffic is god awful.

Has anyone on EE managed to resolve this? My game has been unplayable at peak times (all evening) for about a week now.
I’m on EE (which uses a BT landline) and have had to use a VPN starting a few days ago to play the game during peak times. Without VPN maps will not load, characters get stuck and there is horrendous lag. Using VPN to hide the data and bypass the restrictions it runs fine.
