This is a consolidated list of pathpings/traceroutes people have posted over the past few days.

The main trends I see in the US:
1) Those who traverse Verizon based networks are definitely having issues. Specifically with the peering of Verizon to ArenaNet.
2) US Players who are routed from the WEST over Level3, tend to see a pretty static packet drop early on.

EU Players:
Issues with Tinet and Tinet’s peering with NCsoft’s “plaync.com” enclave.

To contribute more pathpings, this is what you do.
While in game, type in “/ip” in the chat window. This will be he IP you will use.

Then, in Windows, click start(not sure about Windows9). Type in “cmd” and hit enter. You should be at a command prompt window. Type in “pathping ip” where ip is the address you get from the “/ip” command.

To copy it, right click on the command window and choose “select all”; the colors should invert (black<→white). Just hit the enter key and it should go back to normal. Then paste the results in to a reply.

To copy it, right click on the command window and choose “select all”; the colors should invert (black<->white). Just hit the enter key and it should go back to normal. Then paste the results in to a reply.

To clarify a little bit. When you type /ip in GW2 it will pull up a number that looks like this: 64.25.33.61:0. When you go to the CMD and type in pathping (ip address), you LEAVE OFF the :0. So it should read “pathping 64.25.33.61”.

Confused me the first few times I tried.

I don’t see any problems with the route you are taking. It seems clear. Unfortunately we cannot see inside their network all that well.

Are you getting a lot of disconnects? Is the game crashing? Or it is just slow to respond/low fps?

Today lag started. I’m from EU, Germany. Provider: Deutsche Telekom.
I got “rubberbanding” in SAB where I was by myself. Usually only problems with tons of players nearby(where it seems serverside skill lag then).
No disconnects. No crashes. Only that “rubberbanding”.

Not running any other unusual stuff besides the game client(only the usual stuff I’m running all the time without problems or lag).

By default, they block ICMP, which is why we see the !X on their network. However, we know they allow TCP port 80 no issues; as it is required by the game. So we are going to change the behavior of traceroute a bit to very loosely emulate game traffic.

I censored stuff like my computer name and username with ******. 192.168.10.58 is the IP of my computer in my home network. 192.168.10.5 the internal IP of my router.

Again, we are seeing packet drops starting with Verizon and going into NCSoft. Similar to what we are seeing in the US.

At this point, I believe Anet needs to get on the phone with Verizon and see how their game traffic is being routed.

I am using Verizon FIOS as my internet provider. Ever since I switched to them my game has been laggy and I get multiple network disconnects a day. I hope I am contributing to some sort of answer. As it stands playing the game is very frustrating especially since when I was on Timewarner I had no issue at all.

Sarnax, this looks pretty clear at the moment. Usually 65.205.119.210 has a larger packet loss than 1%. That shouldn’t be causing to many issues.

You also have a 1% packet loss on your router; again, that shouldn’t be causing massive issues; normally you shouldn’t see packet loss here.

Hops 8→9 and 9→10 are in their enclave with ICMP blocked; so we can’t really see clearly what is going on there.

I am going to assume (you know what that means…) that “Wireless_Broadband_Router.home” is supplied by Verizon. Are you able to administer the wireless? Maybe change the channel the wireless is broadcasting and see if that helps.

Some people suggested me that the iOS7 release and download by billions of people may have be the root cause of the overall lag. Is that credible?

I would seriously hope it wouldn’t. However, in larger areas(like Dallas, where the GW2 servers are located), Verizon could have been messing around with routing and bandwidth availability to support a large upgrade. Is there a chance? Yes.

I would more likely believe it was network upgrades/maintenance and shaking out the issues afterwards.

I would submit a ticket to ANET; 6% would be noticeable. Most likely a peering issue between Level3 and ANET, but they may be able to take a look at it.

multani.1452,

I would submit a ticket to ANET; 6% would be noticeable. Most likely a peering issue between Level3 and ANET, but they may be able to take a look at it.

a little new to this….ingame ticket?..

No, a support ticket: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/How-to-Submit-a-Technical-Support-Ticket-2/first#post3957

That is a pretty large hop between 5-6. Without seeing packet loss %, I cannot be sure. However, I would be willing to bet you are seeing packet loss on ALTER before you hit the GW2 network.

We can’t see beyond hop 3. However, seeing packet loss, even at 2% and 3% from your computer to your modem and modem to your provider; I would reset the modem. If you keep seeing the packet loss, have SBC take a look at your connection. Really shouldn’t be seeing packet loss there.

Not sure that is reporting correctly. That’s a pretty big loss at your modem. We are seeing upwards of 13% before it hits plaync network.

Not sure that is reporting correctly. That’s a pretty big loss at your modem. We are seeing upwards of 13% before it hits plaync network.

that is copy paste from cmd line.
problem is, this only started yesterday. and no changes done in this end.

The 89 may not be reporting correct, because the following ops, ICMP traffic is blocked. Therefore, not sure how good that is. I could try resetting the modem. Even then, Level3 has some aweful latency; which you may have to ride out.

Thought I would post an update. Well after xystus’s advice I filed a support ticket and was surprised to get a quick response. After sending the information requested by the service tech (Including pingplotter read out etc.) I discovered that level3 was dropping packets at a rate of 30-50 percent. I was informed however by the ANET support provider that it wasn’t their problem but my ISP. So, I call up my isp and ask for assistance. Sure enough, I was informed that since it wasn’t one of their servers, it was ANET’S responsibility to take care of this. Long story short, I spent the better part of three hours going back and forth between the two and came to the conclusion that noone is going to take responsibility for this. Oh and a side note I attempted to contact level3 and got the same response.

multani.1452,

No surprise there. The internet, when a large backbone has issues; basically have to ride it out =/

I’ve been there numerous times with Level3 and their Chicago hop. Back during my WoW raiding days (2005-2011); I can remember 3 or 4 times when their link from Chicago down to their servers in Texas was crap. It effected almost everyone east of the Mississippi and north of Kentucky that played on the Central time servers.

I kind of forgot about some of these websites; but its good data.

I like how Ashley hasn’t responded to THIS thread or any thread showing latency issues but responds at general “lag” threads. :I

We can’t see beyond hop 3. However, seeing packet loss, even at 2% and 3% from your computer to your modem and modem to your provider; I would reset the modem. If you keep seeing the packet loss, have SBC take a look at your connection. Really shouldn’t be seeing packet loss there.

Thank you very much for your reply. We’ve tried resetting the modem a few times and it hasn’t helped any, so we’ll contact them and see how things go.

Still the same problems for me involving level3 and their dropped packets. It’s now gotten to the point where I get full disconnects in the evening. I’m not saying ANET is to blame however I do believe anet should consider informing level3 of the routing issues they’re experiencing since by reading through the forums, it definitely not just me.
