Heya Peeps

My guildie and I have been having massive lag spikes for the last week or so. Though we’ve found that some zones appear to have no lag at all, to name a couple Kessex Kills and Brisban Wildlands and what we’ve noticed is that none of these areas have any of the massive timed events which give out the little daily chest.

Now we were thinking that the API that monitors the the events and allows them to be displayed on websites such as Temple Timers might be placing the servers under added pressure which causes them to lag.

This could be all coincidence and I don’t know how the API worsk but is it possible. Also the new events in the living story could also be having an added effect too.

Any of this ring true with anyone else?

Finally, a thread which isn’t totally pointless. Thank you for starting this Chevron, it could be a lot more useful to post ONLY RELEVANT information in this thread.

Anything could lead to the quick resolution of the current issues affecting all these people, from an idea to a small accurate observation.

Very good idea, i look forward to seeing a dev’s response on whether this could affect it so badly. I for one do believe the API sites could be putting regions under heavy stress for example WvW map readers making WvW lag.

But why would it only make the lag so bad for the same 4 hours everyday?

Like I said I don’t know how the API’s work, though I do have programming knowledge it is possible that when ever someone visits / refreshes the page that the website is requesting the information from the server.

And during prime time that could be a lot of people constantly visiting or refreshing the different websites, which why its worse during that time of day.

I very much doubt this is the issue, this lag problem has been going on for months…long before the API was being used on external websites.

“This” lag problem has only been reported since the latest patch.
The only lag I have ever felt over the last few months was either in WvW, while zergs fought, or in a dragon event.

So the five page thread with people reporting the same problem dating back a month is unrelated? I have had the problem personally since Sunday, that’s also prior to the patch! One of my guild mates has had the problem for nearly two months. On every thread Khally you are pushing that this is a new thing when it really isn’t and that is why so many people are frustrated that anet has made no progress.

I response to the op theory it doesn’t hold up for my experience as I have had the problems in zones with no world events.

Sorry Khally. but while “this” lag is new for you, and many others, since the last patch, it has as Kaiem states effected many others for months, so I guess we can say “welcome to the club”.

Personally the evening (UK time) lag first hit me on saturday the 27th April, and has made the game unplayable every evening since.

The API was released 15th may (I believe, from posts in the API forum) the evening lag started for quite a few of us before this point, so I wouldn’t say the API has anything to do with it.

Additionally, last night during the lag effect (18:30ish onwards BST) I was lagging in LA just crafting, salvaging and reapplying trait points, every action paused then caught up over time, even dragging from one inventory slot to another wakitten or miss whether the action happened or not. Eventually everything just stopped and I was disconnected, error 7, allthroughout chat worked fine.

Upon reconnecting, I was put into an overflow LA and the lag was gone. Travelling back to Aurora Glade LA however, when the queue popped, brought the lag back with it.

Strangely enough, the only map I played last night where the lag did not effect me whatsoever, was in WvW, Aurora Glade Borderlands, even during zerg fights, I saw no lag.

TL;DR
Sound theory on the API, but I very much doubt it.

Apologies to the people above, who apparently experienced a problem I did not have and did not quite understand until I comprehended its magnitude. I have no theories on why you have felt lag throughout this whole time, while the only I’ve had in months was the occasional global skill lag in WvW.

Now, for what I actually wanted to share:
- At approximately 8:45PM tonight (BST, aka GMT with DST), I was playing WvW. And everything was fine for quite a while, I didn’t feel a single lag spike. Suddenly, I heard a short distortion/freezing sound, accompanied by a quick frame freeze. From that point forward, we experienced quite a bit of lag.

I have no idea if this is relevant, but I thought I should share anyway.

Yeh honestly, I’m sick of Gw2s kitten, I’ve been lagging so much since the update, it can’t possibly be my net because I just reset my monthly plan, everything else works fine, but I can’t run one kittening dungeon without my game freezing from lag every minute!
